SEMESTER II<br />
Fabric Manuf<strong>ac</strong>tur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
Course Code: MCT208 L-4, P-0, C-4<br />
Objectives: To enable students to understand and learn methods of develop<strong>in</strong>g fabric by us<strong>in</strong>g different fibres,<br />
yarn, and fabric mak<strong>in</strong>g techniques.<br />
Unit I<br />
General Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of yarn manuf<strong>ac</strong>tur<strong>in</strong>g: Yarn process<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> staples fibres by convectional sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g system.<br />
Alternate spun yarn process. Open end sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g- Rotor, Vortex, Friction, Electrostatic and Air jet. Twist less<br />
sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. Self Twist sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. (8 hours)<br />
Unit II<br />
General Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of man- made fiber sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. Fiber sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g methods: wet sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, melt sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, dry<br />
sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g and solvent sp<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. Blended yarn, bi-component yarn, film yarn and multi component yarn. Textured<br />
yarn technology: texture and its purpose, types and textur<strong>in</strong>g method, process variables <strong>in</strong> textur<strong>in</strong>g. Structural<br />
geometry of yarns and <strong>the</strong>ir relationship to fabric properties (8 hours)<br />
Unit III<br />
Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of fabric manuf<strong>ac</strong>tur<strong>in</strong>g- basic pr<strong>in</strong>ciples, char<strong>ac</strong>teristics and significance of different processes<br />
woven knitted, non woven, l<strong>ac</strong>es and braids. (8 hours)<br />
Unit IV<br />
Weav<strong>in</strong>g technology: Sequence of operation <strong>in</strong> warp and weft preparation. Part of <strong>the</strong> handloom: Motion and<br />
weav<strong>in</strong>g. Types of looms and loom development. Types of weaves- basic and decorative, Pla<strong>in</strong> weaves and<br />
derivatives, twill and sat<strong>in</strong>. Honey comb, huck and b<strong>ac</strong>k, pique, leno, pile, surf<strong>ac</strong>e figure weaves with extra weft<br />
and warp yarn, dobby and j<strong>ac</strong>quard. (8 hours)<br />
Unit V<br />
Knitt<strong>in</strong>g technology - Weft or fill<strong>in</strong>g knitt<strong>in</strong>g: S<strong>in</strong>gle, double knit, knitted pile. Warp knitt<strong>in</strong>g: Tricot, Raschel,<br />
Milanese and Simplex. , Knitt<strong>in</strong>g m<strong>ac</strong>h<strong>in</strong>es: flat bed, circular. Non-woven technology: non-woven, felts<br />
(construction and types) (8 hours)<br />
