SEMESTER III<br />
Textile F<strong>in</strong>ishes<br />
Course Code: MCT306 L-4, P-0 C-4<br />
Objectives: To develop an understand<strong>in</strong>g of different techniques of fabric f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g and various f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g<br />
agent’s along with <strong>the</strong>ir role <strong>in</strong> modify<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> properties of fabric<br />
Unit I<br />
Importance, objectives and classification of f<strong>in</strong>ishes. (8 hours)<br />
Unit II<br />
Different methods of f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g- padd<strong>in</strong>g, foam and spray, F<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> wool- carboniz<strong>in</strong>g, decant<strong>in</strong>g, crabb<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and mill<strong>in</strong>g, F<strong>in</strong>ishes applied on worsted fabrics, pile fabrics, hosiery and l<strong>ac</strong>e.<br />
(8 hours)<br />
Unit III<br />
Calendar<strong>in</strong>g- treatment and types, swizz<strong>in</strong>g, chas<strong>in</strong>g, friction, emboss<strong>in</strong>g, moisten<strong>in</strong>g and Schre<strong>in</strong>eris<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ishes <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g chemical re<strong>ac</strong>tion with textiles- merceriz<strong>in</strong>g, parchmentis<strong>in</strong>g, chlor<strong>in</strong>ation and permanent<br />
sett<strong>in</strong>g of wools, Use of enzymes <strong>for</strong> special f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g. (8 hours)<br />
Unit IV<br />
Syn<strong>the</strong>tic res<strong>in</strong>s- classification, chemical structure and application, Application of res<strong>in</strong> <strong>for</strong> wash and wear and<br />
durable press f<strong>in</strong>ishes. (8 hours)<br />
Unit V<br />
Special purpose f<strong>in</strong>ishes- water proof, water repellent, flame retardant, Antistatic, sta<strong>in</strong> and soil resistant, moth<br />
proof<strong>in</strong>g, soften<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ish, absorbent f<strong>in</strong>ish and shr<strong>in</strong>kage control. (8 hours)<br />
