SEMESTER II<br />

Textile Merchandis<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Course Code: MCT210 L-4, P-0, C-4<br />

Objectives: To <strong>ac</strong>qua<strong>in</strong>t <strong>the</strong> students’ with <strong>the</strong> multif<strong>ac</strong>eted profile of textile <strong>in</strong>dustry of India and to give an<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g of product pric<strong>in</strong>g and sell<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>ac</strong>tices.<br />

Unit I<br />

History, development, present status, problems and export – import trends <strong>in</strong> cotton, wool, silk, jute, and<br />

manmade fibre <strong>in</strong>dustries. (8 hours)<br />

Unit II<br />

Price determ<strong>in</strong>ation- pric<strong>in</strong>g policies, f<strong>ac</strong>tor affect<strong>in</strong>g- price determ<strong>in</strong>ation and cause of price fluctuation.<br />

(8 hours)<br />

Unit III<br />

Distribution-Channels of distribution <strong>for</strong> consumer and <strong>in</strong>dustrial products, classification of middle man,<br />

Retail<strong>in</strong>g-History, modern retail stores and future trends. (8 hours)<br />

Unit IV<br />

Sales promotion: Advertis<strong>in</strong>g, Personal sell<strong>in</strong>g, Publicity and Display-Visual Merchandis<strong>in</strong>g : Plans and<br />

schedules, seasons, holiday promotions, sales, <strong>the</strong>mes/ideas, Types of displays- w<strong>in</strong>dow displays, <strong>in</strong>terior<br />

display, Elements of display- <strong>the</strong> merchandise, <strong>the</strong> b<strong>ac</strong>k drop, walls and shelves, mannequ<strong>in</strong>s and <strong>for</strong>ms,<br />

signage light<strong>in</strong>g- illum<strong>in</strong>ation levels, relation to colour. (8 hours)<br />

Unit V<br />

Labell<strong>in</strong>g- Importance, classification, problems, regulations, care labell<strong>in</strong>g. Certification labels- eco-label,<br />

wool-mark, ISI mark. Brand<strong>in</strong>g-Need, function, types of brands, brand names and <strong>the</strong>ir selection.<br />
