Historic Costume<br />
Course Code: MCT203 L-4, P-0, C-4<br />
Objectives: To <strong>ac</strong>qua<strong>in</strong>t students with the prevail<strong>in</strong>g designs of costumes worn by people of different<br />
periods of history.<br />
Unit – I<br />
Orig<strong>in</strong> of cloth<strong>in</strong>g, Theories of cloth<strong>in</strong>g- theory of modesty and immodesty, protection, adornment,<br />
comb<strong>in</strong>ed need theory. (8 hours)<br />
Unit – II<br />
Costumes of ancient civilizations- Egypt, Greece, and Rome. (8 hours)<br />
Unit – III<br />
English costumes dur<strong>in</strong>g middle ages. French costumes from Renaissance to 20th century.<br />
(8 hours)<br />
Unit – IV<br />
Indian costumes- Study of regional costumes of India, northern, western, eastern, central, southern, north-<br />
central, west-central, south-eastern, south- western regions. (8 hours)<br />
Unit – V<br />
Study of Indian Sarees of past and present. (8 hours)<br />
