UNMOTIVATED ENGINEER<br />

AT WORK?<br />

There are different reasons why the engineers at your workplace<br />

don’t show up to work with a goal to accomplish great things for<br />

the day.<br />

There are days when you observe the people<br />

you work with are not motivated enough to<br />

do their tasks at hand. You see them feeling<br />

uninspired to achieve good results at work. Then,<br />

you find yourself asking if the problem comes<br />

from the people they work with, the specific work<br />

assigned to them or that the company is failing.<br />

There are different reasons why the engineers at<br />

your workplace don’t show up to work with a goal<br />

to accomplish great things for the day. As a leader<br />

in your team, you must properly identify what the<br />

problems are and find the best possible solution<br />

to fix these problems. Here are some ways to<br />

help unmotivated engineers have better work<br />

performances at work:<br />

YOUR ENGINEERS DON’T SEE THE VALUE<br />

IN WHAT THEY ARE DOING.<br />

In most cases, unmotivated engineers often feel<br />

that way because they don’t see the point in what<br />

they are doing. This is why you have to explain<br />

your vision for your company. It is important that<br />

they know what and why they are doing these<br />

things. Let them know the value of their jobs<br />

and how they can help achieve the goals of your<br />

company. Give them something to believe in<br />

and involve them in things that will get everyone<br />

excited about when achieving certain tasks for<br />

your company’s vision.<br />

GIVE YOUR ENGINEERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO<br />

DISCOVER.<br />

Most often than not, engineers do not like jobs<br />

that are boring. They hate taking jobs that doesn’t<br />

allow them the opportunities to improve and grow<br />

as a professional.<br />

As a company, provide time for each of your<br />

engineers to explore new things and give them<br />

new tasks every now and then. For a profession<br />

that taught them to practice critical thinking in the<br />

field, it is best if you give them challenged that will<br />

help them apply what they learned in engineering<br />

school and actually have the chance to discover<br />

more about their work.<br />

MAKE THEM FEEL THEY’RE PART OF THE<br />

SUCCESS OF THE COMPANY.<br />

This is probably the hardest thing to do. One<br />

success of the company doesn’t necessarily<br />

mean everyone can be happy about it, especially<br />

for those who are not personally involved in the<br />

project. You have to find a way to let the people<br />

at work know that each one contributes to the<br />

success of the company. It is better to even give<br />

them validation every now and then. Help them<br />

understand what kind of impact they can have on<br />

the company.<br />

While it is always challenging to keep your<br />

engineers motivated at work, as the leader, you<br />

have to come up with ways to keep them inspired.<br />

If you don’t want to have internal problems at<br />

work, it is best to keep them motivated and feel<br />

valued at work.<br />

As Sir Richard Branson once said, “Clients do<br />

not come first. Employees come first. If you take<br />

care of your employees, they will take care of the<br />

clients.”<br />

Keep them motivated. Keep them inspired.<br />
