Our Annual Exhibition will be held in Cameron Hall, Old Coulsdon on Saturday 29th July (11am - 5pm) and Sunday 30th July (11am - 4pm). All are welcome to see a great selection of photos. Refreshments available. Free Admission. Last year's colour print winner was Michael's 'Beach Sunrise'. "I took this on honeymoon in Sardinia in May 2016, very early on the beach, it was a amazing walk regardless of the photography but I got a nice picture as well." During summer recess we meet informally each Tuesday evening in a local pub so why not come along for a chat? We meet each Tuesday evening (Sep to June 7.45pm for 8pm) in Cameron Hall, Canons Hill, Old Coulsdon. Visitors £5 (refunded on joining). Swifts are one species that will hopefully have young on the wing and by mid-July you may be lucky enough to see large flocks flying around near your home as they gather together ready to migrate back to Africa for our winter. Most will have gone by the end of the month. For their young this will be the first time on the wing and they may remain flying for the whole of the next two years until they set up a nest of their own to breed. During the whole of that period they will feed and sleep on the wing! One late breeder we should see in Croydon is Tufted Duck. Mute Swans, Canada Geese and Mallards have already had broods of young by late May/early June, but the Tufties only start nesting later in June with the young not appearing until July. Last year a pair bred at Waddon Ponds for the first time and it is worth looking out for them at any of our larger bodies of water. Another late breeder is the Hobby; a rare bird of prey that feeds on butterflies, dragonflies and House Martins and often times breeding so that their young hatch when the less experienced young martins are on the wing.
