Abbey to leave
Hearts end
of season
IN-FORM HEARTS of Oak
winger Thomas Abbey is set to
leave the club at the end of the
season. According to sources
close to the speedster, his contract
is expected to run out at the
end of the ongoing campaign.
Due to Abbey’s impregnable form
in the ongoing season, a lot of clubs
are at his heels.
However, the Accra giants are yet to
reach an agreement for an extension
with the former Windy Professionals
captain and it is likely he will leave the
former African champions.
Abbey this season has netted 10
goals.
Basketball
Coldstore takes down Police
DEFENDING TEMA
Basketball League Champions,
Nungua Coldstore,
have registered another
key win in their title defence,
beating Ghana Police
53-23 in the headline
game of today’s round of
games.
The Tema Community
4 Court held the exciting
round of games that had
Don Bosco Giants fall 20-
41 to the home side in the
opening game before
Teshie Rangers recorded a
second straight win courtesy
a 40-30 win over
Community 5.
Ghana’s Deaf Team to leave
for competition tomorrow
BY ANNETTE S. YEBOAH
OFFICIALS AND athletes of the
Ghana Deaf team are expected to
leave Ghana for Turkey latest Thursday,
to participate in the World Deaflympics,
which began yesterday
[Monday] and ends on July 30, 2017.
The team, which was expected to
travel for the competition last week,
could not make the trip early because
Tema Heat beat Ghana
Navy 39-32 in another top
duel with the loss being
Navy’s second in the
league.
For Police, losing to
Coldstore is the side’s first
of the season having
won six games in
the lead up to
the crunch
game.
Nungua
Shooting
Guard Emmanuel
Wolff
got the reigning
champions up
and running with
a pair of three point shots
before adding an assist to
his tally off a tailored
bounce pass to Kwame
Boamah Djan for a layup.
Djan completed a three
point play to give Nungua
of delay in securing air ticket, visa
and other things.
Speaking to the National Media
Coordinator for the team, Mr Oti-
Asirifi Mensah, confirmed to the
DAILY HERITAGE in Accra that
the team would be part of the tournament
as everything had been put in
place for the trip.
Last Saturday, the officials of the
team were spotted at Kantamanto, a
secondhand clothing hub in Accra,
buying sportswear.
an 18-6 first quarter lead.
Members of Coldstore’s
deep roster took turns to
take apart a visibly frustrated
Police side who had
very few answers as
Jonathan Walker, Edwin
Appiah and Enoch Borsah
sank three point shots.
Appiah caught the eye
with nifty Eurosteps before
center and forward
Kofi Agyei put an exclamation
point on Nungua’s
win connecting on an alley
hoop pass from Guard
Nana Agyei Afriyie to
slam the ball home two
handed.
Ghana’s preparations for the
games have seen very little support
from the National Sports Authority
and the government. Sources say the
government did not fund the budget
for any of the activities of Deaflympics
Team for the tournament.
Currently, team Ghana are in two
separate camps at Mensah Sarbah
Hall at the University of Ghana and
Simpa Hall at the University of Education,
Winneba.
