This term some of our Year 8 students have been producing work for
the ‘arts & minds’ competition. This is a national event which celebrates
diversity. Mr McKenzie states that he has been particularly impressed
with the creativity and ‘out of the box thinking’ of our students. Their
work has been submitted and we look forward to finding out how they
have fared!
Oracy Initiative
In September 23 students were selected from Year 9 to trial Oracy
activities. Research from The Faculty of Education at Cambridge
University was used to underpin a framework consisting of four strands
(physical, linguistic, cognitive and socio-emotional). The sessions took
place on Friday afternoons and were well attended on a voluntary basis.
The aim of the initiative is to develop confidence in scenarios requiring
any form of public speaking. Below is an example of one of the tasks
that was set.
