do you have a beauty
regime? To be honest I’m
not really one for a beauty
regime and never have been.
My skin is very colourful
with freckles which I’ve
always hated. However, now
I’m in my early fifties, I’m
starting to think they hide
Superfoods...
English Walnuts are harvested
from late August until the
end of September and,
once dried, can be stored
in their shells in a cool, dry
place for several months or
shelled in the fridge for six
months. Walnuts are rich in B
vitamins, potassium, copper,
magnesium and antioxidants
and are an excellent source of
anti-inflammatory omega-3.
Try these instant veggie
a multitude of flaws and
maybe – just maybe – help
with a more youthful look!
I wash night and morning
with Tropic skin cleanser,
tone with rosewater and
moisturise with Boots
No.7 anti-ageing cream. I
keep fit by caring for my
meatballs, adapted from
Liana Werner-Grey’s recipe,
which take just moments to
make: Put 1½ cups walnuts,
1 cup sundried tomatoes,
2 tablespoons olive oil, salt,
pepper and 1 tablespoon each
of fresh thyme, rosemary and
oregano in a food processor
and whiz till the mixture
resembles fine bread crumbs.
Roll the mixture between
your palms into walnut-sized
disabled daughter Kitty.
do you have a particular
product you couldn’t live
without? I have a Guinot
Age Summum facial once
a month from my beauty
therapist Yvonne at Aura.
I paint with oils and
turpentine – not the best
things to inhale – so a good
moisturiser is an essential.
What’s your ultimate
pampering treat? Being out
of doors is a real treat and,
as an artist, I spend most
of the summer and winter
outside in my studio with
the doors open. I’m so lucky,
I’ve had my four children
and can now address my
first love – painting – and
make a career out of doing
something I really enjoy.
Who’s your style icon?
My style icon would be
my Gran, she had so much
personality and style. I think
a great smile is an essential
part of being a ‘beauty’
and so is being happy.
meatballs and chill in the
fridge for 30 minutes. To
serve, warm the meat-free
meatballs for 15 minutes on
a baking tray in the oven at
150˚C. They’re delicious with
pasta and fresh tomato sauce.
Cleanse &
Moisturise
It seems particularly apt in
August to go to the sea to
find a treatment for hair
depleted by sunshine and
swimming in the summer.
VOYA’s Forget Me Not
Smoothing Conditioner and
Silky By Nature Nourishing
Shampoo are created from
organic seaweed harvested
from the Atlantic waters of
County Sligo. The seaweed
comes from Ireland but
the skills of the cosmetic
scientists, marine biologists
and dermatologists who
have created this ethical,
organic skin-care range
have been sourced from all
over the world. Seaweed is
rich in minerals, vitamins
and trace elements and its
extracts have a pronounced
moisturising effect on the
hair, increasing lustre, adding
body and counteracting
any fly-away, electrostatic
charge. Both shampoo and
conditioner are great to use
with a silky texture and
subtle scent.
