Music, Food, & Dance With
Noches con Ritmo
Looking for a night of music, delicious food,
and dancing? You’ll find it all in one place,
Center Stage Theater, during the salsa night
series Noches con Ritmo.
Featuring local and regionally known bands,
the performance line-up for this salsa music
and dance series is always fresh as bands rotate
throughout the schedule to ensure each event
has its own unique vibe and rhythm.
Possibly best of all, if you need to brush up
on your moves, one hour before all the performance
festivities kick-off there is dance instruction
provided, 7pm – 8pm, by Evie Quiñones
ensuring you find a dance partner and are ready
to move by the time the band starts at 8:30pm.
One regular patron, Stephen Oshiro,
recommended to first time guests, “Having
fun is the bottom-line! You may not get (all
the dance steps) the first time, but it gets into
your body and you just start moving. Just
come and have fun!”
Of course all that salsa dancing to live music
will work up an appetite, but don’t worry,
Center Stage Theater has you covered. With
freshly made food each night and a full bar with
drink specials available before 9pm, you’ll want
to arrive to the event early to take full advantage
of the menu.
Come join us at Center Stage Theater at 8463 Sierra Ave.
in Fontana to dance the night away! For more information
INLAND EMPIRE
RESTAURANT
WEEK RETURNS
STICK A FORK IN IT!!
Inland Empire Restaurant
Week returns for two
splendid weeks, August 11
through August 25, giving us
all an excuse to “go out”, so
let’s do it!
Let’s make some changes! Seems
there is a misconception that
the restaurants in the Inland
Empire are boring, underachievers,
same old thing…..really? Anyone
who claims that is not aware of
the culinary jewels we have in the
Inland Empire. The region is full of
unique restaurants, from mom and
pop diners to full on five star chefs!
Hang up the apron, avoid the
dishes, and try something new…
or revisit an old favorite. Let’s face
it – it’s hot and who wants to slave
over a hot stove…..who? Our local
chefs that’s who! Let’s support
them, let’s add revenue to our local
economy, let’s just go out.
August 11 – August 25 is our
excuse to find a new place, discover
what’s in our own backyard
and brag about the delicious lunch
or dinner you’ve experienced. This
year wineries and craft breweries
have been added with restaurants
featuring special offers. All of us
who live, work, and play in the
Inland Empire should be proud
of the culinary options we have
here. So, let’s make that change –
let’s dine out, let’s give it a review
on Yelp, or at least brag about
our restaurants on social media!
It is up to all of us to change the
perception of the Inland Empire
and what easier way than with our
restaurant scene.
Visit InlandEmpireRestaurant-
Week.com today. Check out the
pre-fixe menus and special offers
and make a difference.
Inland Empire Restaurant
Week is a 14-day dining event
showcasing a variety of restaurants,
craft breweries and wineries
throughout the Inland Empire.
Participating restaurants feature
their specialties by creating a
multi-course fixed price menu
for lunch and/or dinner. Inland
Empire craft breweries and wineries
can feature a craft beer flight
or wine tasting and, if desired, a
simple appetizer to enhance a pairing.
This two-week dining event
not only introduces new customers
to restaurants, craft breweries,
and wineries, but is intended to
discover new chefs and hidden
gems, ultimately enhancing the
local economy.
Powered by The Greater
Ontario Convention And Visitors
Bureau, Inland Empire Restaurant
Week was created to build awareness
about the Inland Empire, its
diverse culinary community, and
drive business to our local restaurants,
craft breweries, and wineries.
Inland Empire Restaurant Week
showcases and also strengthens,
the destination’s brand and
culinary reputation. Attracting
tourists to the area increases business
for hotels, shopping centers,
entertainment and other local
businesses. Everyone benefits from
the impact of the tourism dollars
spent in the area.
The 104th Southern
California Fair
Mark your calendar for the return of this nine-day fair, starting September 30.
The 104th edition of the Southern California
Fair is fast approaching and will take place
from Saturday, September 30th, through
Sunday, October 8th. The nine-day fair, which
was formerly known as the “Farmer’s Fair,” moved
from Hemet to its current location on the SoCal
Fair and Event Center (formerly known as the
Lake Perris Fairgrounds) 30 years ago in 1987.
Today the fair contains all the amenities of a
modern-day fair. However, like few others, it still
retains much of its original small-town appeal and
heritage. Hidden amongst the bright lights and
modern day vibrations, fair goers can still enjoy
many events from days gone by including livestock
exhibits and competitions, a petting zoo and
pony rides, contests, midway games, magicians,
pig racing, old west shootouts, hay bucking and a
ranch rodeo.
In addition to the old school attractions, 2017
fair goers will enjoy a multitude of other events
and allures including concerts, motorcycle jumpers,
demolition derbies, monster trucks, carnival
riders, pet adoptions, and much more. Of course,
the grounds will be clustered with a wide variety
of mouthwatering fair foods and beverages.
This 2017 fair will feature several special days.
Among them will be “Media Day” on September
29th. “Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Uniform
Day” on September 30th. Scouts in uniform
that day will be admitted free. Tuesday, October
4th will be “Read to Ride Day.” Students from
kindergarten to sixth-grade will need to read four
age appropriate books to receive free admission
and four free carnival ride tickets. Wednesday,
October 4th will be “Taste of the Fair Day” and
all concessionaires will carry at least one yummy
menu item for $3. Friday, October 6th, will be
“Senior Day.” From Noon to 3pm, seniors 60
and older will be admitted for $5 and will receive
a coupon for a free soft serve ice cream.
Daily tickets for this year’s fair are $10 for
adults, $8 for seniors (60 and older), and $5 for
children 5-12. Children aged 4 and under and active
military members in uniform will be admitted
free every day. Active military with proper id
but not in uniform will receive a $2 discount.
Pre-sale tickets will be available from August
14th through September 29th. They will save
adults and seniors $2 per daily ticket and kids will
save $1 per ticket. Annual passes, the best deal at
MOTORCYCLE RACING: Flat Track Finals. Oct. 7.
the fair, are only $18 for adults and seniors and
$12 for kids. To order advance tickets, call (951)
657-4221.
Fair hours for 2017 are 11am to 11pm on
Saturday and Sunday. 4pm to 11pm Monday
through Thursday, and noon to 11pm on Friday.
The freeway-close Southern California Fair
is located a little more than an hour east of Los
Angeles and an hour north of San Diego at 18700
Lake Perris Drive in Perris.
have to pay, many choosing
to sit on one of two spacious
sundecks with a good book
while the kids have a blast. Or,
head to the recently expanded
indoor base lodge to escape the
sun where there’s video games
and family-priced snack bar that
includes an old-fashioned Breyers
ice cream counter.
Alpine Slide is famous for its
Olympic-style bobsleds which
are in season all year long. Snow
is never needed since the sleds
have teflon runners and ballbearing
wheels, and the quartermile
long tracks with banked
turns and long straightaways are
cement.
Riders control their own
speed with the brake, and unlike
any amusement park ride, each
Alpine Slide
trip down is a completely unique
and interactive experience. Lean
into each turn and go into a tuck
through straightaways to experience
what it’s like to be an Olympic
bobsledder, or use the brake
to go slow and soak in views of
the lake and mountains.
For a relaxing change of pace
enjoy a round on the Putt ‘N
Around miniature golf course,
laden with rolling greens, water
hazards, even penalty-stroke
“sand traps.”
Then for more fast fun, ride
the Putt ‘N Around Go-Karts,
each equipped with 5.5 horsepower
Honda motors and an
array of safety features including
three-point harness restraints,
hydraulic disk brakes, rack and
pinion steering and padded steering
wheels. The tire-lined track
sports hair pin and high banked
turns as riders circle under the
pines at 7,000 foot elevation. IER
Alpine Slide is on Big Bear Blvd. in Big Bear, 1/4 mile west
of the Village shopping area, home to 60 specialty stores.
‘Veritas’ Singers In Loma Linda Concert Aug. 26
VERITAS: (Left to right): Andrew Goodwin (second tenor), Jeff Anderson (first tenor), Lucas Scott Lawrence (bass),
James Berrian (baritone), and Jordan Johnson (first tenor)
Acclaimed gospel-classical cross-over musicians
VERITAS will appear in live concert
in Loma Linda Saturday night, Aug. 26.
The five-member male vocal group is making
a second appearance at Loma Linda University
Church, having previously been featured there
with five-time Grammy-winning soloist Sandi
Patty during her national farewell concert tour
last February.
Describing VERITAS at that time, Patty
commended their classical style and sound as
“like hearing five Josh Grobans at the same
time.” Their return for the upcoming full
concert reflects the enthusiastic acceptance they
received from concertgoers at the earlier event,
according to Dr. Bob Soderblom, local coordinator
for both musical performances.
The group chose its name – Latin for “truth”
– to reflect their spiritual and musical values,
they explain. Their powerhouse vocal style
reminds fans of contemporary classical groups
such as Il Volo, Il Divo, and others, including by
extension The Three Tenors who started it all:
Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, and Luciano
Pavarotti.
The five singers’ official debut concert was in Albany, Georgia, in 2012.
Members then and now are Jeff Anderson, first tenor; James Berrian,
baritone; Andrew Goodwin, second tenor; Jordan Johnson, first tenor; and
Lucas Scott Lawrence, bass. Their self-titled, first full-length album was
released in 2014.
The concert at Loma Linda University Church is a musical high point
of that congregation’s month-long “camp meeting” tribute during August
of each year. Services and special events at the church during that period are
marked by more informal dress and music, and programs reminiscent of a
bygone camp-meeting era, according to the pastors.
The Aug. 26 VERITAS concert is scheduled to begin at 7pm, with
doors opening at 6:30pm.
Tickets are available in advance from iTickets.com, either online or by
telephone at (800) 965-9324. They range in price from $10 to $30, Soderblom
says, and popular credit cards are accepted. The $30 “prime” tickets
provide up-front seating with early admittance (6pm) and opportunities for
meeting and photos with the musical artists, he said.
Ticketholders are assured of seating within their respective price-range
section, but individual seat choices within each section are first-come, firstserved,
Soderblom advises. Tickets purchased from iTickets are subject to a
nominal service charge.
Local hosts of the concert are the University Church, at 11125 Campus
St. in Loma Linda, and Calimesa Community Concerts. Collaborating in
sponsorship of the Loma Linda concert is the Calimesa Seventh-day Adventist
Church, which also celebrates an annual August camp meeting series
with special speakers, lively music, and old-time revival programming.
Loma Linda concertgoers will have access to free parking in a covered
structure opposite the church. A dedicated local telephone line provides free
recorded concert information and directions at (909) 795-4960. IER
Mickey Gilley Concert
UNDER THE STARS AT THE
RAMONA BOWL IN HEMET
There is no better place to be for a summer
night concert than the Ramona Bowl in
Hemet, and Mickey Gilley is coming to entertain
you on Saturday, September 2nd at 8pm.
The Ramona Bowl is the historic outdoor
amphitheatre located in Hemet. The amphitheatre,
located in the foothills of Hemet, is a beautiful,
natural setting where the Official Outdoor
Play of California, Ramona, is presented every
year, but it is also a wonderful concert venue.
Mickey Gilley is a country singer who
transitioned to being a pop country singer. His
career started in the 70’s with hits like “Room
Full of Roses”. Other hits in the 1970s include
“Chains of Love” (1977), “Honky Tonk Memories”
(1977), “She’s Pulling Me Back Again”
(1977), and “Here Comes the Hurt Again”
(1978). These songs were a mix of honky tonk
and countrypolitan that brought Gilley to the
top of the charts in the 1970s.
In the 1980’s Gilley’s music was featured
on the soundtrack of Urban Cowboy. A string
of six number-ones on the Country charts
followed the success of Urban Cowboy. Other
No. 1’s include “True Love Ways”, “A Headache
Tomorrow (Or a Heartache Tonight)”,
“You Don’t Know Me”, “Lonely Nights”, and
“Stand By Me”. IER
Besides being the home to the Ramona
play, the Ramona Bowl hosts concerts
throughout the summer months and is
considered one of the most beautiful
outdoor venues in southern California.
General admission tickets are $35 and
VIP with meet and greet are $50. For more
THE LOVE LIST
by Norm Foster
September 8 - September 24, 2017
Leon and Bill concoct a list of attributes
of the ideal woman - the top ten
very best qualities. When this allegedly
"ideal woman" actually arrives on the
scene the men quickly learn that their
list could use a few revisions. Be careful
what you wish for - especially in choosing
a mate. This old adage leads to hilarious results in this sparkling and
thought provoking comedy.
Professor Van Helsing and his comrades
are determined to hunt down and destroy
the evil Count Dracula. But the task is
not a simple one as the Count is exceedingly
strength and psychic powers to confound
his antagonists. Culminating in a shocking confrontation, this adaptation
is an action packed retelling of Bram Stoker’s classic tale of horror.
April 6 - April 22, 2018
An announcement in the local
murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s
Victorian house. The victim is not one
of the house’s several occupants, but an
unexpected and unknown visitor. What
follows is a puzzle of mixed motives and
concealed identities. As an inspector grimly follows the twists and turns,
Miss Marple, at risk to herself, may provide the final solution.
ARTS IN LAGUNA
Pageant Of The Masters Ready To
Embark On ‘The Grand Tour’
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the desire to
experience the world’s great art firsthand inspired
the European tradition of continental
travel on the Grand Tour. Inspired to set out on
pilgrimages by land and sea to the great cultural
centers of Europe, and eventually the globe,
those early travelers often risked life and limb to
stand in the presence of masterpieces. It’s that
original dedication to expanding one’s horizons
by visiting the great art centers of Europe that
fueled Pageant Director Diane Challis Davy’s excitement
and research as she fine-tunes plans for
this summer’s production, The Grand Tour.
“Perhaps because I do so much virtual traveling
via Google,” Challis Davy offered, “I have a
fantasy about actual travel and sightseeing. I was
curious about the tremendous difficulties travelers
encountered in the 18th century, with horsedrawn
coaches on unpaved roads and no railways,
no hotels. Even restaurants hardly existed, and
there were virtually no public museums.”
On the traditional Grand Tour, art became a
destination for privileged travelers in much the
way the Pageant during its 84-year history has
become a destination for theatregoers who want
to experience art in a one-of-a-kind entertainment.
“Much of the show will unfold like a
journey,” Challis Davy said.
There’ll be no shortage of masterpieces in the
2017 Pageant, including works by Leonardo da
Vinci, Tiepolo, Longhi, Watteau, Reynolds, and
Romney. But, as in previous years, the production’s
theme will expand to include American
artists like John Singer Sargent whose work was
transformed by his travels.
With the coming of the 20 th century, new
modes of transportation made it possible for
almost everyone to go on their own “tourists’
grand tour,” and the theatrical possibilities
assure no shortage of Pageant-style fun and
inventive showmanship. A side trip to Pompeii,
a celebration of Carnival in Venice and the
European tour of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show
offer abundant opportunities for surprises and
special effects. A tribute to Paris in the early 20 th
century when audiences in clubs embraced the
talents of Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong,
and Duke Ellington reveals how a change of
scene can launch an artist’s career.
Among the great stories associated with the
original Grand Tours, Challis Davy has her
own favorites including the romantic saga of
Lord Hamilton, Emma Hart, and Lord Nelson,
whose exploits helped make Naples a must-see
destination during the late 18 th century.
Pageant Scriptwriter Dan Duling explained,
“I hope we can recreate some of that sense of
awe shared by those early travelers when they
visited the grand palaces, ancient ruins and art
centers of Europe. The original Grand Tours
were educational pilgrimages, to Paris, Rome,
and beyond. Those who made the journeys
couldn’t help but be changed by what they saw,
what they brought back, and what they experienced
so far from home.”
As always, Challis Davy and her staff realize
the Pageant wouldn’t be possible without their
Adapted by Kathryn L. Gage
December 8 - December 10, 2017
Marley's face! It can’t be. His partner,
Jacob Marley, had been dead these last
seven years. In fact he died seven years
ago this very night - Christmas Eve. Miserly
Ebenezer Scrooge has grave doubts
at first about believing his own eyes.
Very soon, however, he will learn much from the ghosts who would
become his companions this night - this night that will bring about his
total transformation.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
by Stella Wallace
February 23 - February 25, 2018
In the Enchanted Garden a poisonous
witch has been waiting hundreds of
years for the right man to stumble into
her lair. To her delight a prince arrives
but when he refuses to be her husband,
she turns him into the visage of a Beast.
He must stay in her wintry garden forever, that is, until either he marries
her, or until a beautiful maiden falls in love with him. Don’t miss
this charming adaptation of a classic story.
AS AMERICANS, WE RODEO!
NORCO MOUNTED POSSE CELEBRATES
33 YEARS OF PRCA RODEO
Pride. Tradition. Honesty. Excitement.
Here in Norco we take these to an
extreme when we rodeo. We have rich
traditions in our small town and we take them
seriously. We have a dedication to them just as
we have a dedication to our homes, our families,
and our country.
Rodeos were the first absolutely American
sport. Starting in Texas and spreading from
there all over the wild west. It brought together
communities and all walks of life all across the
nation. Ideally, we’d like to think it still does.
In Norco, we keep the tradition of a
rural lifestyle. We believe in the pride of that.
Every summer we celebrate our lifestyle. We embrace
our neighbors, and new friends. We stand,
remove our hats and get chills when they fly
the red white and blue around the arena. Join
us this August and sing along with our national
anthem, acknowledge the men and women who
take their military oath center stage on Sunday,
and keep the pride, tradition, honesty, and
excitement alive in our small part of a much
larger world.
Join the Norco Mounted Posse for their 33 rd
Annual PRCA rodeo August 18 -20. The three
day rodeo features all the Western timed and
rough stock events that fans love! Enjoy the pre
rodeo entertainment, chute tours, vendors, and
food. See the thrilling Bull riding during the
event. Watch Whiplash The Cowboy Monkey
who is truly a fan favorite, a 3-Time Pro Rodeo
Entertainer of the Year, and an international star
who has been putting smiles on faces for years.
We have the young cowpokes showing their
skills during the Mutton Busting event. Post
Rodeo events include the Free K-Frog Family
Dance on Friday night and a 21 and over
after rodeo party on Saturday night, which
will feature Tina Michelle and The Rhinestone
Cowboys and a full bar with happy hour prices.
On Sunday watch the Military Mounted
Cavalry color guard, the military oath of induction,
and our special needs kids who compete in
a series of modified events during the Challenged
Children’s Rodeo.
Let’s Rodeo in Norco!
