CATS Presents The Classic<br />
Play, ‘Steel Magnolias’<br />
CATS, The Community Arts Theater Society,<br />
will present the classic play, Steel Magnolias<br />
by Robert Harling at the CATS Warehouse<br />
Theater for six performances on August 25, 26,<br />
September 1 and 2 at 7:30pm with matinees on<br />
August 27 and September 3 at 2:30pm. Tickets<br />
will be available at (909) 585-4757.<br />
There is limited seating and parking and it<br />
is advised to purchase advance tickets and arrive<br />
early. General Admission tickets are $20.<br />
Steel Magnolias has become a classic play in<br />
theatre literature as well as a becoming a classic<br />
film. Written as a play in 1987, the award winning<br />
film was produced in 1989 starring Sally Field,<br />
Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine,<br />
Daryl Hannah, and Olympia Dukakis. The play<br />
and film depict the universal deep bond a group<br />
of women share in a small-town southern community.<br />
A beauty shop is the setting that guides<br />
them through friendship, happy times, falling<br />
apart, and coming back together again in support<br />
for one another, no matter what life throws at<br />
them.<br />
It is a play filled with very funny situations as<br />
well as life-altering challenges and solutions.<br />
Directed by Adam McDonald, the CATS<br />
cast features some of Big Bear’s most talented<br />
and favorite actresses: Carolyn Freeman Champ<br />
is Truvy, Diana Hintergardt is M’Lynn, Amber<br />
Parle is Shelby, Elena Peavy is Clairee, Serena<br />
Saunders is Annelle, and Nancy Walker is Ouiser.<br />
Steel Magnolias is produced for CATS by Karen<br />
Sargent Rachels with Karen Bergmann as Associate<br />
Producer.<br />
After 24 years and over 70 productions, this<br />
production will be the final curtain call for the<br />
CATS organization. Following this production,<br />
CATS will have a giant “blow-out” sale of all<br />
of their costumes, sets, props, equipment and<br />
memorabilia on September 23 and 24 from 8am<br />
to 4pm.<br />
