Professional Letter from Staff, Temple Board Emanuel’s & Group President, Contacts Jessica Manelis As the summer winds down and everyone is beginning to think about going back to school, my responsibilities as president will start to heat up. Given the time of year, I thought it would be appropriate to take advice from some of my teacher friends and let you know what you can expect from me as your president for the next three years and what I expect from you as my congregants. You can expect me to be passionate, dedicated and loyal to Temple Emanuel. You can expect me to work collaboratively with my board, who are just as passionate, dedicated and loyal. You can expect that we are always going to make decisions You can expect me to be enthusiastic about everything I do. You can expect me to make myself available if you ever have any questions or concerns about anything “TE.” You can expect to see me on Fridays at Shabbat evening services. And you can expect to see me snagging a black and white at the oneg. You can also expect that you may not see me on Fridays at Shabbat evening services, because I might have other plans. can expect that my cell phone will go to voice mail between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., because I am making and eating dinner with my family. You can expect me not to read or answer your emails on shabbat. And you can expect to not see me on the bimah on Erev Rosh Hashanah, because I have a tradition of having dinner with my parents and sister, often the only time we are all together during the High Holy Days. You can expect me to listen and work hard at helping you get the most out of your TE experience. And, you can expect me to say “hi” to you if I pass you in the hallway. I expect you to get involved: join a committee, attend a program, participate in a mitzvah project, or I expect you to make a new friend. I expect you to bring your existing friends and share the fabulousness. I expect you to let me know when you have a question or concern about anything “TE.” All that bottled-up negative energy is bad for your soul. I expect you to realize my enthusiasm is contagious. I expect you to remember that my fellow board members and I are volunteers. We have families. We have friends. We have jobs. We own businesses. And, I expect you to say “hi” back. Dear Congregant, This may be the middle of the summer, but it is the beginning of an exciting new time at Temple Emanuel. Our sanctuary and social hall are being renovated, promising a beautiful and bright future for our congregational family. I know that, in addition to making our bimah accessible to all, this will enhance our worship experiences in so many ways and add to the enjoyment of our various celebrations. One of the greatest things that our TE community has to celebrate this year is the arrival of Rabbi Gidon Isaacs as our new Assistant Rabbi. In addition to his obvious scholarship and his experience in Jewish education, Rabbi Isaacs is a enrich our Jewish lives and be a wonderful addition to our community. I look forward to sharing our sacred work and the bimah with him. Please join me in welcoming him, along with his wife, Wendy, and their sons, Natan and Yadin. Rabbi Isaacs was ordained from Hebrew Union College in May and relocated to Voorhees with his wife Wendy and their two sons, Yadin (10) and Natan (8). Before his rabbinic ordination, he worked in several other Jewish institutions and brings with him a caring spirit in which he hopes to make a difference and bridge connections with our members to truly make Temple Emanuel #feelslikehome to everyone.
