This issue, we are highlighting Dr. <strong>Beth</strong> <strong>Grafton</strong>-<br />

<strong>Cardwell</strong> as a way of thanking <strong>her</strong> for <strong>her</strong> efforts over<br />

the past two years in serving as the Senior Science Editor<br />

for Citrograph. <strong>Beth</strong> is stepping down from this position to<br />

take on a major role within the University of California system<br />

as leader of the Endemic <strong>and</strong> Invasive Pests <strong>and</strong> Diseases<br />

Initi<strong>at</strong>ive. In this role, <strong>Beth</strong> will also become a member of<br />

the UC Agricultural <strong>and</strong> N<strong>at</strong>ural Resources (ANR) Program<br />

Council. The Council reports directly to UC Vice President<br />

Dan Dooley for policy <strong>and</strong> direction input. We look forward<br />

to a new rel<strong>at</strong>ionship with <strong>Beth</strong> as the UC reorganizes its<br />

structure to accommod<strong>at</strong>e recent budget restrictions.<br />

ABOUT THE COVER<br />

<strong>Beth</strong> is one of the founding members of the Citrograph<br />

Editorial Board <strong>and</strong> has served as Senior Science Editor since<br />

CRB began public<strong>at</strong>ion with the premier issue in January<br />

2010. Using <strong>her</strong> skills as an Extension Specialist, <strong>Beth</strong> has<br />

been a major force in shaping the content of the magazine <strong>and</strong><br />

assuring the high quality of articles th<strong>at</strong> we have been able<br />

to publish. Her main focus was the fe<strong>at</strong>ure science articles<br />

<strong>and</strong> ensuring th<strong>at</strong> they were written in layman’s language.<br />

She has been joined by Dr. MaryLou Polek, Vice President<br />

of Science <strong>and</strong> Technology for the <strong>Citrus</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Board,<br />

whose responsibility is reviewing the articles presented by<br />

CRB research Project Leaders.<br />

<strong>Beth</strong> will continue <strong>her</strong> role as Director of the <strong>Lindcove</strong><br />

<strong>Research</strong> <strong>and</strong> Extension Center <strong>and</strong> as a research leader for<br />

the CRB <strong>and</strong> ot<strong>her</strong> commodity groups. The cover photo of<br />

this issue fe<strong>at</strong>ures the crew of LREC. This outst<strong>and</strong>ing group<br />

has been the cornerstone of the citrus research program for<br />

California for many years by providing support to the many<br />

UC research leaders. <strong>Beth</strong> has also served on the CRB Communic<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

Committee <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Citrus</strong> Pest <strong>and</strong> Disease<br />

Prevention Committee’s Communic<strong>at</strong>ions Committee. She<br />

will continue to provide input to these groups when possible.<br />
