Volunteer of the Month: Jessica Chasen
How long have you been members of TE? Although we lived in PA in 1993, I
attended the Introduction to Judaism class with Rabbi David because I was dating
a guy who’s family were Reform Jews. I quickly realized I found the religion I was
searching for and converted in1994 in the TE chapel. On June 18, 1995, David and I
were married here at TE and in 1997, we knew we wanted to live in this area and we
joined TE on the same day that we bought our home in Voorhees. So technically we’ve
been members for 20 years now, but our history here is longer.
Where are you from? I was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA
Where do you live now? Voorhees NJ
Volunteer of the Month: Jessica Chasen
Who makes up your family? David (hubby), Rebecca (20, in college) and Noah (17, in
senior year)
What do you do? I was a hospital pharmacist for ten years, then a therapeutic massage
therapist for ten years. I’m now looking for what the next ten years will bring!
What do you do for fun? Volunteer!
What is your favorite summer recipe? I absolutely love Grilled Halloumi with Basil/
Mint Oil on Watermelon. Yum!
In what ways do you volunteer at TE? I’ve been on the Sisterhood board for 17
years, most of that time on its Executive Board in different roles. Currently my role is
Vice-President. I also run our Gift Card Program which helps raise funds to provide
grocery money for those in need. I’m involved in our Ritual Committee too as well
as whatever comes up. My latest volunteer thing for TE was cooking the meal for our
luau. Fun!!
What was your most memorable TE moment? Our wedding still wins. Signing the
Ketubah with Rabbi Musnitsky in the bridal room before the sanctuary “wedding” was
the best experience with its intimacy of immediate family and closest friends.
What are you looking forward to in the
next 12 months? Seeing what the future
brings and being a part of it!
