For FEP, the Standard is Excellence<br />
The Arkansas Blue Cross and<br />
Blue Shield Federal Employees<br />
Program (FEP) division won the Plan<br />
Excellence Award for 2016, marking<br />
the 15th time in 16 years the team<br />
has accomplished this astonishing<br />
feat. In order to win the award, FEP<br />
must achieve an excellence rating of<br />
100 points in both the Service Profile<br />
and Strategic Profile categories for<br />
the Plan Incentive Program (PIP).<br />
To celebrate, the FEP employees<br />
had a picnic at Woody’s Sherwood<br />
Forest where they enjoyed a catfish<br />
lunch and engaged in some friendly<br />
competition playing baggo.<br />

to Arkansas to personally present<br />
the awards (see photos).<br />

A New Product Available to Employees<br />
during <strong>2017</strong> Open Enrollment<br />
FocusCare — an all-new health plan from Health Advantage<br />
aimed squarely at reducing cost, improving health and<br />
healthcare, and increasing satisfaction — will be available to<br />
enterprise employees during the <strong>2017</strong> open enrollment period.<br />
Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, FocusCare utilizes an innovative<br />
partnership among doctors, patients and insurers to customize a healthcare<br />
plan around the needs of each individual member. This new product<br />
incorporates measureable outcomes through a unique, committed<br />
collaboration of the healthcare community, closes gaps in care<br />
through proactive involvement, and saves money through<br />
improvements in quality, cost and member satisfaction.<br />
“FocusCare is healthcare that revolves around the member,<br />
not an illness, because the plan of care is customized for<br />
the individual and provides care for every member of the<br />
family in every stage of life,” said John Glassford, president<br />
and chief executive officer of Health Advantage. “It’s really<br />
a new way of thinking about healthcare.”<br />
A network of more than 3,000 healthcare providers in the<br />
FocusCare network means members have a large pool<br />
of hospitals, primary care physicians and specialists from<br />
which to choose in order to get the care and services they<br />
need. Additionally, every member has an active role in his or<br />
her healthcare by providing valuable input and making healthier<br />
choices. When everyone plays an active role in keeping the<br />
member healthy, costs come down.<br />
“The goal is to work with healthcare providers to offer a health<br />
plan they would want for their family members,” said John.<br />
“Then we’ll know it is good enough for our members.”<br />

Appreciating our members<br />
Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield hosted Fearless Fans &<br />
Fireworks, a member appreciation event, at Dickey-Stephens<br />
Park on August 4. Members received $3 off their Arkansas<br />
Travelers baseball ticket by showing their Arkansas Blue<br />
Cross health plan ID card. The first 2,000 through the gate<br />
received a free souvenir baseball. And, after the games,<br />
attendees got to enjoy a fabulous fireworks display.<br />
Our very own, Shay Franklin, in Human Resources<br />
Administration, hit a home run with her vocal<br />
rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”<br />

Shield Summer Internship Program<br />
concluded its fourth year in August<br />
and continues to be beneficial to<br />
interns and the enterprise alike. The<br />
24 interns worked in departments<br />
throughout the enterprise on a<br />
variety of projects.<br />

Also, Curtis Barnett, president and chief executive officer,<br />
along with Aven Emery, daughter of Brittany Emery, who<br />
works in internal OP training and staff development,<br />
threw out the first pitch to get the night started.<br />

After a highly competitive process,<br />
three interns — Alexandria Barnes,<br />
Sultan Faretdinov and Jolli Khoo —<br />
were selected to give presentations<br />
on what they had been working<br />
on all summer. In addition, one<br />
intern, Alexandria Barnes, earned<br />
a $5,000 scholarship to help with<br />
college expenses.<br />
