Motoring Skyline charges ahead with electric taxis Skyline Taxis are now operating a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs), including a Nissan Leaf and three Tesla cars. This has been part-funded by the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant for low emission vehicles. Gav Sokhi, Managing Director of Skyline Taxis, said: “Skyline has been at the forefront of the EV taxi market in Milton Keynes for the last few years and was the first taxi company to register an electric vehicle with Milton Keynes Council back in 2011. We have also consulted with the Council on licensing policies and worked with Chargemaster on establishing charging point locations and advised where best to place them.” Skyline’s new vehicles, including the 30KW, are quieter and offer a longer range. Customers will also be pleased to hear that Wi-Fi will soon be on offer, as well as the option to pay by Chip and Pin. Wishing Skyline the best of luck with their great new venture! This friendly group was formed in 1927 and continues to aim to achieve more for the community. They recently formed an agreement of affiliation with Elizabeth Woodville School to provide mutual support and encouragement within the community. They would now like to develop their vital welfare and benevolent work but they need more people to help. Could you help or do you know someone who can? Help is also needed with this year’s Poppy Appeal which begins towards the end of October, last year they raised an incredible £6406.89 from your generous donations. Could you give up an hour or more of your time to ask people to donate this year? You don’t have to have been in the forces to help. The group meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Deanshanger Conservative Club. This is to prevent injury to the cyclist particularly if they have to move out to avoid potholes or debris in the road. When conditions are wet you should give more room. Follow this guideline to prevent risk of prosecution for driving without due care and attention. Rule 66 legally allows cyclists to ride two abreast and in single file on narrow or busy roads. When overtaking the motorist should be on the other side of the road and ensure there is no oncoming traffic. It is actually safer for cyclists to ride two abreast as the motorist will pass over a shorter distance before returning to their side of the road.
