Slater Fest was held on Thursday,<br />
August 31st at Paul Farnan Field, at<br />
Bangor Memorial Park. This annual<br />
Slater tradition is held prior to the start<br />
of the school year, <strong>and</strong> the fall sports<br />
season for students, parents, <strong>and</strong> fans<br />
to come out <strong>and</strong> meet the coaches <strong>and</strong><br />
players. <strong>The</strong> award winning Bangor High<br />
School marching b<strong>and</strong> also performed.<br />

Signups for all Bangor Area School District students in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 <strong>and</strong> 7 (age<br />
restriction – player cannot turn 13 years of age prior to 9/1/17); will begin <strong>September</strong> 15,<br />
<strong>2017</strong> thru October 13, <strong>2017</strong> online via the League Apps platform payable by debit/credit<br />
card. To register your child please use<br />

If you do not have internet access or debit/credit card to register your child you may<br />

Municipal Building located at 387 Ye Olde Highway Mt. Bethel, PA 18343, which cash/check<br />
will be accepted. Please bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate, must be provided at<br />
signup (do not bring original birth certificate, there is no copier available). Players in grades<br />
1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd will be provided a team T-shirt, players in grades 3rd thru <strong>7th</strong> must order a<br />
uniform at signup (if player does not have a 2016/<strong>2017</strong> uniform). Registrations will not be<br />

DiscoverE Adventure Backpacks Available - Monday thru Saturday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM<br />
Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth. Borrow a backpack full of kid-friendly tools to explore<br />
Jacobsburg! <strong>The</strong>se backpacks are best for families with young children. Each backpack includes binoculars, notepad,<br />
colored pencils, magnifying lens, bug box, dip net, <strong>and</strong> five field guides for exploring the pond, insects, birds, trees,<br />

Fishing Rods <strong>and</strong> Tackle Available - Monday thru Saturday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM<br />
Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth. Borrow fishing poles <strong>and</strong> tackle to use in Jacobsburg’s<br />
creeks! To borrow equipment you must provide a driver’s license or other form of state issued identification. Persons<br />
age 16 <strong>and</strong> older must possess a current fishing license to fish. Adults can help children under 16 fish without a<br />

Family Night - Magnificent Monarchs! - Friday, <strong>September</strong> 8, 6:30-8:00 PM<br />
Monarch Butterflies are beautiful creatures that make an amazing migration each year. Learn about their life cycle <strong>and</strong><br />
what you can do to help Monarchs along their journey. We will take a close look at some young Monarchs <strong>and</strong> explore<br />
the wildflower fields of Jacobsburg in search of adult butterflies. This program is best for families with children ages 5<br />
<strong>and</strong> up. Registration is required.<br />
DiscoverE: Tales for Tots - <strong>September</strong> 12, 19, & 26 10:00-11:00 AM or 1:00-2:00 PM<br />
Our popular Tales for Tots program returns with all new explorations! Join us for story time followed by nature<br />
activities for preschoolers ages 3-5. Each week we will explore a different topic by reading a book followed by a craft<br />
<strong>and</strong> short scavenger hunt. Adults must accompany their child. Children that attend six sessions will earn a DiscoverE<br />
Hide n’ Seekers certificate. Please note that the morning <strong>and</strong> afternoon sessions will be identical. Registration is<br />
required.<br />
Tuesday Trails - Tuesday, <strong>September</strong> 12, 5:30-7:00 PM<br />
Join educator Lauren Forster after work for a brisk hike at Jacobsburg. Hikers should always bring water <strong>and</strong> sturdy<br />
boots or shoes. Routes <strong>and</strong> meeting locations will vary each week. Call or email to receive information on where we’re<br />
hiking each Tuesday. Meet at flagpole at Visitor Center located at 400 Belfast Rd., Nazareth. Registration not required.<br />
Bring Home the Natives - Saturday, <strong>September</strong> 16, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM<br />
Many of our beautiful native plants are often overlooked by gardeners. Join us for moderate walk <strong>and</strong> learn about<br />
<strong>2017</strong> Blue Mt. Baseball League Champions<br />

the importance of adding native plants to your garden. We'll introduce you to plants that meet a variety of garden<br />
conditions <strong>and</strong> attract different species of butterflies <strong>and</strong> birds. Non-native plants that can become invasive <strong>and</strong><br />
should be avoided will also be covered. Please bring water, a snack, wear sturdy shoes <strong>and</strong> dress appropriately for the<br />
weather. Registration is required.<br />
Native Garden Volunteer Day - Saturday, <strong>September</strong> 16, 1:00-4:00 PM<br />
Join us as we work to maintain our beautiful native plant gardens. Projects may include weeding, mulching,<br />
path maintenance, <strong>and</strong> planting. Please dress for the weather <strong>and</strong> bring snacks, bottled water <strong>and</strong> work gloves.<br />
Registration is not required.<br />
Monarch Tagging - Sunday, <strong>September</strong> 17, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM<br />
Join local butterfly enthusiast Doug Burton as he captures <strong>and</strong> tags Monarch Butterflies in the wildflower fields<br />
at Jacobsburg. We’ll also look for <strong>and</strong> capture other butterfly species. A hat, long pants, sunscreen, <strong>and</strong> water<br />
are recommended. A limited number of nets will be provided for those who wish to help Doug capture butterflies.<br />
Registration is required.<br />
Monday Morning Birds & Beans - Monday, <strong>September</strong> 18, 8:00-10:00 AM<br />
Join educator Rick Wiltraut for “bird friendly” coffee <strong>and</strong> a bird walk at Jacobsburg, focusing on identification of<br />
confusing fall warblers. Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes <strong>and</strong> bring binoculars. A limited<br />
number of binoculars <strong>and</strong> field guides will be available. Registration not required.<br />
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day - Saturday, <strong>September</strong> 23, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM<br />
This is a special day that includes bike skills development, trail etiquette programs with horses, <strong>and</strong> guided group<br />
rides/races based on age group. Partnership with Valley Mountain Bikers, Local Bike Shops <strong>and</strong> Equestrians. For ages<br />
3-16. Please pre-register online with number of participants including the age of each <strong>and</strong> skill level riding bike/prior<br />
experience. All participants must have a properly fitting helmet <strong>and</strong> a bike in good working order.<br />
