museum plea for unit:
Female PPE
Compass Group UK & Ireland,
the UK support services company,
has launched a range of personal
protective equipment (PPE) for
women. The contractor says that
it launched the new line after a
four-week trial to further support its
diverse female workforce, from chefs
to cleaners and security officers. The
range, which includes adjustable
safety goggles, slip-resistant shoes,
protective gloves including cut
resistant gloves and a selection of
high-vis jackets and trousers, came
out of a review of previous PPE
provision and the more specific
requirements of female colleagues. p
Stella Walsh awards
In its annual Stella Walsh awards,
the Fraud Women’s Network has
presented a lifetime achievement
award to Rachael Tiffen from the
CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public
Finance and Accountancy) Counter
Fraud Centre, that she launched
in 2014. Two runners-up were
Christine Farrow, from Financial
Fraud Action UK; and Charlotte
Green of Vodafone’s Telesales Fraud
Prevention Team. p
Peter’s 25th
The installer 2020 Vision, based
in North Shields, marked its 25
years in business with an evening
at Newcastle Racecourse for staff
and clients. 2020 MD Peter Houlis,
pictured, said: “I am delighted that
the company has reached this great
milestone of 25 years in business and
is recognised nationally by clients,
peers and suppliers alike, I am justly
proud of our reputation; exceptional
level of repeat business, high degree
of referrals and customer retention;
many in excess of 20 years.” p
Rapley sounds warning
Vernon Rapley, Head of Security and
Visitor Services at the Victoria and
Albert Museum (V&A) has warned of
the consequences to the arts world of
any cuts to the Metropolitan Police’s
arts and antiques unit. He told the
BBC Radio 4 The World Tonight that
the UK museums and culture sector,
and London, would ‘lose enormously’
without the unit. He spoke of the scale
of the unit’s work, that he headed
while a policeman. In his time, he told
the programme, it dealt with three and
a half tonnes of antiquities looted
from Afghanistan; besides objects
similarly taken from within war-torn
Iraq. “It also is an absolute essential
for other police forces around the
world, who are trying to recover their
cultural heritage.” The V&A has a
‘culture in crisis’ programme, that
seeks to support countries suffering
loss of cultural heritage, whether for
man-made reasons as in the civil war
in Syria or after a natural disaster. p
