a special program featuring speaker
Professor Patrick Malone from Brown
University. There is a $30 registration
fee for the dinner – all are welcome to
attend. Malone will present “Cities at
the Falls: Waterpower in Lowell and
Amesbury” a talk organized to compare
the development of waterpower and the
growth of the textile industry in both
cities. Executive Director, John Mayer
says, “we are honored to have such an
expert speaker available to share his
knowledge about the industrial history
of the region.” Malone is professor
emeritus of American and Urban
Studies at Brown University and a past
president of the Society of Industrial
Archeology. This illustrated presentation
will look at how these manufacturing
centers harnessed the energy of falling
water to drive machinery and support
economic development. The program
builds on recent work by the Carriage
Museum to explore the history of
Amesbury. Registration is available on
line at www.amesburycarriagemuseum.
