IAAF WORLD CHAMPS 2017
BOLT’S FARE
LONDON 2017 WILL MARK THE END OF AN EXTRAORDINARY CAREER
100m
THE WORLD’S most famous
and charismatic athlete, Usain
Bolt, bids for a record fourth
title over 100m – his seventh
global short sprint gold and his
14th individual global title. It
will be his final championships
appearance. He has not fully
convinced so far in 2017
with back problems possibly
hindering him, but has still won
all his races, has a fantastic
competitive record, and still
remains the favourite.
Based on recent major
races, Bolt will not be ahead
at halfway or possibly even at
80 metres but no one finishes
a race like the Jamaican sprint
star and he has the stimulus
of knowing this is his last
important individual race.
He will need to improve his
season’s best of 9.95 to end an
amazing career on a winning
note. However, he will not have
to approach his championships
record of 9.58 to win.
The athlete who won in
the year Bolt false-started in
2011, Yohan Blake, won the
Jamaican Championships in
9.90. However, he has not been
seen since but could still be in
the mix for victory.
The fastest on paper at 9.82
is NCAA champion Christian
Coleman, who also curiously
hasn’t raced since being beaten
in the US Champs by Justin
Gatlin in June.
Unlike some of his rivals,
