PUBLISHER'S NOTE
by AHMED KHALIFA KHALFAN
This is a very special issue.
All through the previous months, we discussed at length how we could mark National
Day and make this a bonanza of an edition. One by one we discarded the ideas that were
tossed around. We wanted something special, which captures the spirit of Bahrain, and
celebrates what it is all about. It was at that point that we heard about the new initiative
that had just begun at Bahrain Bay. When the Bahrain Bay team sent out feelers if we
would be interested in featuring it, we knew we had hit bull’s-eye! More so, when we
discovered that bizbahrain would be the only magazine granted the exclusive feature
and cover.
So who is eL Seed? By now most people in Bahrain already know, such has been the
storm of excitement his presence has created. Internationally recognized, his work
graces walls, bridges, rooftops, and other structures and surfaces on nearly every
continent - from Paris’ famous Pont des Arts Bridge to townships in South Africa. But
most importantly, and this is what makes his work so perfect for a National Day issue,
is that through his work he reaches out to the spirit of the community, drawing people
together around a giant canvas. Not any less, is the fact that he has transformed a space
and created something that will bring artists and art lovers to Bahrain. And of course,
he has immortalized the poetry of our very own literary legend, Ali Al Sharqawi.
We are therefore proud to feature the Bahrain Bay initiative with el Seed as our cover.
Read the story and exclusive interviews with eL Seed and dynamic Bahrain Bay CEO
Gagan Suri to learn more.
December is a significant month in many ways, and Bahraini Women’s Day is one added
reason. We carry an important article on Women’s Empowerment focusing on Silah
Gulf, an organization that has made a considerable impact in supporting women and
making the workplace a conducive one for the employees regardless of gender. I am
sure you will also enjoy our Capital Club supported interviews with two dynamic young
entrepreneurs, and all the other special interviews, focus features and opinion pieces by
our distinguished guest writers.
On that note, I wrap up for this issue, and for this year. It has been a challenging year
filled with illuminating and learning experiences. I am sure most people will agree
that we have all survived the challenges successfully and now enter the next year with
hope.
Let me also take the opportunity now to congratulate His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa
Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal
Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the people of the Kingdom of
Bahrain on the occasion of our 45th National Day. Our wishes and blessings are always
with our wonderful country!
