The Glasses 1. A fine coin goblet with round funnel bowl over a hollow knop with raspberry prunts containing a silver four pence dated 1689, above an inverted baluster and folded foot. A magnificent coin goblet, well made and of excellent proportions. One of a group of glasses made in the early eighteenth century which frequently contain a seventeenth century coin. The maker has decorated the hollow knop with prunts, a feature sometimes seen at this date and which is a throw-back to seventeenth-century glass making. This glass was lot 83 in the Walter F. Smith sale at Sotheby’s on 4th December, 1967. There is an small open bubble to the outside of the bowl. 1 Cited by Sotheby’s in the Walter F. Smith Catalogue 4th December, 1967 !10
2. A goblet, the deep round funnel bowl with solid base on a stem with wide angular and base knops with central tear and with wide folded foot. English c. 1710 Provenance: Height 20.7 cm Alan F. Green. Delomosne & Son Ltd. A fine heavy baluster goblet in brilliant metal with a particularly large and handsome angular knop. A comparable glass, but not with such a wide knop, was in the A. C. Hubbard Collection, see Lloyd, W., A Wine-lover’s Glasses: The A. C. Hubbard, Jr. Collection, Richard Dennis, Somerset, 2000. There is very minor wear to the interior of the bowl. !11
