5. A wineglass, the round funnel bowl with solid base on a stem with teared angular knop on a domed and terraced foot. English c. 1710-20 Height 16.8 cm Collections: Sir John Risley. Walter F Smith. Henry Fox. A fine-looking glass with a particularly rare foot type, more often seen in taper and candlesticks. This glass was lot 629 in the Walter F. Smith sale at Sotheby’s on 24th June, 1968. A very similar glass is illustrated by Ward Lloyd, Investing in Georgian Glass, p. 39. Glasses with similar feet are illustrated in Thorpe, W. A., A History of English and Irish Glass, Vol. II, The Medici Society, London, 1929, pl. LII, figs. 1, 2 & 3. !14
6. A wineglass, the round funnel bowl with solid base and tear, on a stem with a large ball knop with tear and short knopped section, on a folded foot. English c. 1710-15 Height 13.8 cm Collection: John and Pamela Whittle. The very large ball knop makes this glass an exceptional example. Rarely is this unusual knop so clearly and emphatically employed. !15
