29. A goblet with round funnel bowl on a stem with opposing baluster knops each with a tear and with central collar on a domed and folded foot. English c. 1715-20 Height 21 cm An unusual stem form most often seen in the wineglass size. It is rare in a goblet and this one is in fine bright metal. A glass from the same set is illustrated in Thorpe, W. A., English & Irish Glass, The Medici Society, London, 1927, fig. 9, and was in the Hamilton Clements collection; later sold in the Thomas Collection, Bonham’s, 4th June, 2008, lot 11. !38
30. A rare goblet, the deep double-ogee bowl with solid base on stem with large angular knop with tear on a high domed and folded foot. English c. 1715-30 Height 21.3 cm Collections: Illustrated: G. A., A History of English and Irish Glass, Vol II, The Medici Society, London, 1929, pl. XLIX , fig 2. Apollo, London, October 1936, Hughes, G. Bernard, English, Scottish & Irish Table Glass, Bramhall House, New York, 1956, pl. 37b. A very rare glass, particularly in goblet size. The high domed foot is notable as well as the double ogee bowl, so uncommon at this period. This glass was lot no. 657 in the Walter F. Smith Collection sold at Sotheby’s on 24th June, 1968. Part of the catalogue description reads “originally one of a pair of celebrated goblets”. !39
