Food for fundraiser

students tried dishes from
different countries.
Dean of international
students Louise Stanton said the
International Club, headed by
Amy Chen, organised the event
as a fundraiser for St Andrew’s
High School in Tonga.
One of the sisters from St
Andrew’s spoke to the school
last year and the Rangi students
were all struck by the struggle
the school still faced following
Cyclone Winston early last year.
Amy said being able to give
back is a very important part of
being a global citizen.
“St Andrew’s in Tonga
struggles to find enough money
to do what it needs to do. Many
of the families are unemployed
and because the school is funded
from fees, this means there isn’t
enough money for even the
basics like books and other dayto-day
needs,” she said.
Popular food at the lunch
included chocolate and fruit
waffles, Japanese rice balls and
the Thai jelly.

During International Week,
$1700 was raised for St Andrew’s
High School and another
fundraiser is planned before the
end of the year.
