Feeling better than ever, Kai decided to train for a 5K. Although she thought it would never happen, Kai had set a
goal to one day run a race at Disney World® after seeing a group of runners with their finisher’s medals during a family
vacation in 2010. Six years later, she proudly received her own medal after completing a half marathon and a 10K within
two days, and plans to run another Disney World® race which includes a 5K, 10K, half and full marathon, within four
consecutive days next year.
Joey waited a year to work out, but once he started, he discovered a love for obstacle course races because they
reminded him of the 13 years he served in the military. After convincing Kai to join him, the energized couple started
competing in various races together.
“I found out you don’t have to go crazy with exercise,” Joey says. “All you have to do is become more active. I parked
farther away or worked out in the yard to stay active.”
"We would get stressed out and turn to food," says Joey. "We still get stressed
out today, but if we do turn to food, it's celery or something healthy."
HOW THEY
DID IT
- Replaced sugary soda and sweet tea with Rehydrate, Spark and water
- Followed the Daily Guide for every meal, adding in healthy snacks to avoid stress eating
- Kai began jogging on day one; Joey parked further away and took the stairs on a daily basis
It’s been over two years, and Kai is down over 200 pounds and Joey has lost 135 pounds. Now that they’ve both blown
past their goal weights, they’re focused on building lean muscle and making the most of their newfound lifestyles as
Kai trains for her first full marathon, and Joey looks to complete three obstacle races spanning more than 26 miles in
a year. Aside from her fitness goals, Kai is also proud of the everyday accomplishments she’s achieved throughout this
life-changing transformation.
“I can hold my son on my hips or my lap,” she gushes. “Every time I hold him it’s another reminder of how far I’ve come.”
The results achieved were a result of a consistent low-calorie diet and regular daily exercise over a 2 to 3 year period of time. Personal
