Its varying qualities and ever-changing colours make it the most interesting gemstone to work with. Favourite metal: Gold as it’s rich and lustrous. I especially like to design using gold nuggets. Favourite tool: My graver. It has so many uses; I’d be lost without it. Best tip from a jeweller: Never rush when you are setting. Best tip to a jeweller: Never stop learning. Biggest health concern: Sitting down for too long. My watch now tells me to move. Do you buy tooling locally, overseas or a mix of both? I try to buy everything locally; if we don’t support suppliers we will have none. What frustrates you most about the industry? The lack of hallmarking laws and price discounting to unsustainable margins. Such short-sightedness devalues our industry. My bench is always: Organised – my Dad taught me young to put tools back and I always have. Favourite sport/team: Soccer. I played until I was 48 and Manchester United is my favourite team.
