Home@735 is one of Sydney's newest
contemporary art galleries, located in a terrace
house at 735 Bourke Street, Redfern in inner city
Sydney. One of our main objectives is to create a
comfortable and inviting space that bridges the
gap between the audience and the artist's work.
The domestic context is an ideal backdrop for
exhibiting ceramics. We show ceramics in two
bespoke cabinets and throughout the gallery.
Our motivation is to show engaging work from
artists, in particular ceramic artists who often
don't have as many opportunities to exhibit as
practitioners from other disciplines. This seems to
be especially true in group exhibitions with artists
from other disciplines.
Ceramics are often shown in galleries
dedicated to ceramics, whereas Home@735
exhibits ceramics in context with other art
forms. By exhibiting ceramics in this way we
hope to extend the audience's understanding of
ceramics by including installation and conceptual
practices as well as sculptural forms and painted
surfaces.
We hope to build ongoing relationships with
the artists we have shown and continue to
exhibit ceramics that are challenging. We have
some exciting exhibitions planned for the near
future, including, in September 2014 as part of
the Sydney Fringe Festival, a solo installation and
interactive artwork by Dan Elborne, an emerging
Queensland ceramic artist.
