As winter draws near, Theatre Royal
Bury St Edmunds is pleased to present
a vibrant line-up for November that will
warm your spirits.
Kicking us off with toe-tapping tunes from the
classic hit film comedy, Irving Stage Company
present Sister Act. Set in Philadelphia, disco diva
Deloris Van Cartier is forced to hide under police
protection after witnessing a murder, and the best
place to hide? A convent. With songs like Take Me to
Heaven and Fabulous, Baby! you’re sure to get your
groove on (Tue 31 Oct – Sat 4 Nov).
Charles Dickens’ classic tale, The Old Curiosity
Shop tells of a magical place filled
from wall to wall with dust-laden
treasures. Little Nell Trent lives with
her devoted grandfather in this
London shop, but his gambling
habit leads to the shop being seized
as payment and the pair are forced
to flee London. On the run, Nell
and her grandfather fall in with a
succession of colourful characters (Thu
9 – Sat 11 Nov).
With A Night of Dirty Dancing, relive the Cult
Classic and celebrate the music of one of the
greatest movie soundtracks of all time. Be part
of the glorious summer of ’63 and experience all
your favourite songs such as She’s Like The Wind,
Big Girls Don’t Cry, Hey Baby, Hungry Eyes and of
course the Oscar winning (I’ve Had) The Time of my
Life (Sun 12 Nov).
In our Shakespeare Takeover Programme – The
Tempest, join us for an enchanting evening as three
local schools perform their dramatic responses to
Bilimankwhe Arts’ production of The Tempest (Wed
15 Nov).
Multi-award winning Rob Kingsley presents A
Vision of Elvis, voted the Official No.1 Elvis Tribute
show it has been performed worldwide to sold-out
audiences. Embark on a musical journey from Sun
Studios via The Movie Years and The ’68 Comeback
right through to a breath-taking Concert Years finale
for an experience you will never forget (Sat 18 Nov).
Rounding off the season Ballet Theatre UK
present The Nutcracker, one of Tchaikovsky’s
most famous compositions and a popular
Christmas ballet presentation. This well-loved
traditional ballet will be performed in a unique
setting with 24 international dancers from
companies around the world (Mon 20 – Wed
22 Nov).
After all of that, it will be time for us to set the
stage for this year’s traditional family pantomime,
Dick Whittington. Join the cast for the ride of a
lifetime as young Dick Whittington sets off to
London to make his fame and fortune!
This exciting adventure, filled with our traditional
blend of magic, music, fun and laughter, runs from Fri
1 Dec until Sun 14 Jan, with a Gala Performance on
Sun 10 Dec.
