Dear HEB Management,
The Assistant League of Georgetown Area will be holding its 1st Annual Fundraising Golf
Event on Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Berry Creek Country Club. We know you are a huge
supporter in the community and would like to ask for your participation in this event to improve the
quality of life for those less fortunate.
Our mission/commitment is to annually provide clothing and shoes for less-fortunate elementary
students in the Georgetown area. Last year we clothed 1,877 students totaling approximately
$157,000. In addition to clothing the students again this year, we plan to award $5,000 scholarships to
six graduating high school students with either a college scholarship or a two-year tech school
scholarship for a total of $30,000.
Assistance League is an all-volunteer, tax exempt 501 © (3) organization. We strive to continue our
annual commitment to these students, and with your help, we can reach that goal! All monies raised
remain in the Georgetown Area.
Sponsorships are available at the following levels and will be displayed prior to and during the event:
$4,000 PLATINUM Hole Sponsor with golf for four players includes breakfast, lunch
and cart.
$1,000 GOLD Hole Sponsorship for one player includes breakfast, lunch and
cart.
$ 500 SILVER Hole Sponsor includes breakfast, lunch and cart.
We would like to feature your business as a highlight of our event and would welcome your
contribution to support this worthy cause.
Thank you for your consideration of making a difference in someone’s life. Together we can help
Georgetown area children in need. Please feel free to contact me if you need further information.
Sincerely,
“Come Out and Play a Round for the Kids”
CRAFTERS SALE A SUCCESS
I am pleased to announce that this first sale of its kind
did over $1000 in profit for our Thrift Shop. The actual
number is $1265, but I allowed for other linens sold
during the time period of 8/22 through 8/26. Needless
to say, we should be pleased with this wonderful total
that we would not have acquired if we had passed on
all these nice donations made to our shop. And more
importantly, I’m convinced that our sale brought in new
craft devotees who probably bought items from the
other departments plus learned about the Assistance
League Thrift Shop.
Many thanks goes to Joan Underwood, Anne Hoke,
Cynthia Ignizio, Denise Pesek, Lee Pettit, Jonene
Pruitt, Shelly Holliday, and Trudy Rivera for their labors
and support in getting this sale to the floor.
A special thanks go to Trudy Rivera for using some of
her budget to put an ad in the Williamson County Sun
to announce our event. It was confirmed by our
customers that a lot of them had seen the ad in the
paper.
Way to go, Linen Ladies!
ALGA's annual fundraising mail campaign is off
and running. Donations to Ring the Bell support
Operation School Bell, our signature program to
help needy students in
the Georgetown,
$22,500
Florence and Jarrell
school districts.
Thanks to
The Ring the Bell mailing
underwriters
covering went to over 1240 homes
$900 of and businesses. Posters
expenses! and flyers in area
Lauren
Doering of schools and businesses
Farmers Ins. support the effort. In
Tracy Meeks addition, a flyer inserted
of ChemDry
in the September 1st
issue of the Stacy
Newsletter went to 8100+ homes in Sun City.
Our goal for this year is $22,500. Can you help?
All ALGA members are encouraged to
participate with a donation of ANY size. It is
important for our grant funding to show 100%
membership support through contributions.
Each child is entitled to $75 to spend on school
clothes through Operation School Bell. That's
why we suggest that amount in our mailing.
However, any and all donations are
appreciated.
Give what you can. You can use a credit
card or check at the monthly meeting. Let's
put smiles on these children's faces.
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL: chair,
Linda Ledbetter,We had a very successful event
at Walmart on August 26, 2017. Even though the
weather was not good, we served 306 Jarrell
Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle School
students out of 350 invited. Jarrell counselor, Laura
Buckley, was very efficient in calling those who didn't
come and reassigning their invitation letters to
others. Because of the bad weather, the rest of the
eligible students will be invited to a make-up session
on September 30, when Florence Elementary sends
their students. Linda Ledbetter reports that
invitations to all GISD schools have been delivered,
pre-numbered, to reduce the counselors' time, so
they can focus on gathering the Outcome Survey
information. Volunteer sign up sheets for the rest of
the dates in September, October, and November will
be available at the
September general
meeting.
A little history ....
At our final May membership
meeting completing our 2016-17
season, Laura Buckley (counselor
at Jarrell Elementary School) made
a unique presentation to ALGA. She
explained that 425 children from 1st
thru 5th grade assembled this
beautiful quilt ... tiny piece by tiny
piece.
The quilt represents the "Giving
Tree" from Shel Silverstein's book
about the tree that gave so much to
the boy he loved but was never
appreciated...but that was OK with
the tree.
They felt it represented what ALGA
does for them....giving without
expectation.
There were many tears in the room
at that moment.
Check out the new look of the
Boutique at the Thrift Shop!!
Many thanks to Paulette
Newton, Nick Danese and Bill
Hansen for creating such a
beautiful, well organized
display area.
It makes us proud!

VOLUNTEER
GRANTS
Did you know that many major corporations
have grant programs that will donate funds
to non-profits for service hours?
The hours that you volunteer at the Thrift
Shop or our philanthropic programs may
qualify for grant funds.
Please look over the attached list of the top
ten volunteer grant companies and see if
you would qualify for their programs.
The company that you worked for prior to
retirement may not be on this list but may
also have a program that provides grants
when you volunteer. Just ask. This is
another way to support the Assistance
League.
