THE GREENS have endorsed Justin Alick (pictured)
as the party’s candidate for Bennelong.
Mr Alick told The Weekly
Times local democracy will
be a major issue for The
Greens, a party which promotes
itself as a grass roots
alternative to the major party
political machines.
“It is The Greens policy to
introduce a Federal referendum
to protect local government
and local democracy in
The Constitution,” Mr Alick
said.
“In Bennelong it is The
Greens policy to protect our
local waterways and our
bushland and when you look
around Bennelong you see
a community let down by
politics with over crowded
schools, congested roads,
degraded bushland and poor
community infrastructure.”
Christian Democrats target elderly
The Christian Democrats
will announce a candidate
for Bennelong this after-
noon (Wednesday) as the
party moves to attract a

aged community as well
as Armenian, Chinese and
Korean Christians.
In an exclusive interview
cy and top of our policy list
is freedom of religion, free
speech and traditional mar-
riage.
“An important part of our
policy for Bennelong will be
quality funding for aged care
and we are opposed to cuts
to the aged pension.”
Christian Democrats State
Director Craig Hall said several
outstanding local people
had nominated as a canvote
Christian Democrat.
“We don’t specify or support
any denomination or
ethnicity but we do have
support from Armenian
nomination process is underway.
-
Christians and from Chinese
and Korean Christians and
we value that support.”
Conservatives to pick candidate
Australian Conservatives,
the party founded
by South Australian
Senator Cory
Bernardi, was poised
to select its candidate
for the Bennelong byelection
at the time
The Weekly Times was
going to press.
Mr Bernardi said the
party was “in discussions”,
that a number of potential
candidates had shown interest.
It is understood that
due to time constraints,
a meeting of the party’s
state and federal executive
on the weekend had decided
the candidate, who
was due to be unveiled
to members of the party’s
Bennelong ‘Supporters
Group’ at a meeting last
night at Brush Farm House
in Eastwood.
“We don’t have a lot of
time at all,” Bernardi said.
“We just need to make
sure that the people who
have nominated share our
values, they don’t have
any baggage and are not
dual citizens, that’s the
critical test now.”
Local Australian Conservatives
Supporters
Group members gathered
on the weekend for Christmas
drinks at a Hunters
Hill mansion.
A relaxed Bernardi was in
attendance, mingling and
chatting with most of the
guests during the event.
