release in the America the Beautiful series. The
Park was founded in October, 1949 in Harpers
Ferry, Iowa. The legends of the Native Americans
whose ancestors built the mounds are
known as ceremonial and sacred sites. The
park occupies 2,565 acres with a total of 206
different mounds.

in the America the Beautiful series. The
monument was founded in May, 1965 in New
Jersey and New York City. For the vast majority
of immigrants, Ellis Island truly was an “Island
of Hope” - the first stop on their way to new opportunities
and experiences in America. For the
rest, it became the “Island of Tears” - a place
where families were separated and individuals
were denied entry into the United States.

Frederick Douglass National Historic site is the
37th release in the American the Beautiful series.
The site was founded in February, 1988 in
the District of Columbia. The house was built in
1855-1859 by John Welsh Van Hook, consisting
of 6 to 14 rooms. In 1877 Frederick Douglas
paid $6,700 for the house and 9 and ¾ acres
of land. A year later he purchased another 5
and ¾ acres of land from Elle R. Talburtt. By
the time of Douglas’s death, he had turned the
house into a 21 room mansion.

George Rogers Clark National Historical park
is the 40th release in the America the Beautiful
series. George Rogers Clark National Historical
Park was named a National Park in 1966.
The park is located within the city limits of Vincennes,
Indiana adjacent to the Wabash River.
The 26.17-acre site contains the George Rogers
Clark Memorial which commemorates the
achievements of Lieutenant Colonel George
Rogers Clark and his frontiersmen during the
American Revolution.

Ozark National Scenic Riverways is the 38th
release in the America the Beautiful series. The
park was founded in August, 1964 in Missouri.
Historic sites among the park include Alley
Spring, Alley Mill, Buttin Rock School, Walter
Klepzig Mill and Farm, and Reed Log house.
Alley Mill was a vital part of the community life
centuries ago, where grain was ground to provide
the daily bread. The present building was
constructed in 1893-94 by George Washington
McCaskill and is now the famous red color.

Our Nation’s most treasured national
parks and sites – majestic places that truly
make us “America the Beautiful” – are
represented in a 5oz pure silver quarter
series that started in 2010. This series is the
first five-ounce, .999 fine silver bullion coins
ever produced by the United States Mint.
The 5oz quarters are exact duplicates – only
much larger – of the America the Beautiful
Quarter series that started in 2010 and will
go through 2021.
The obverse of the quarter features
George Washington based on the portrait
created by John Flanagan for the 1932
Washington Quarter. The reverse of each
quarter features the National Park or
Site that is being honored that year. The
United States Mint created two types of
these 5oz quarters, one being the bullion
coin that comes in a tube of 10 coins. The
second is the “Uncirculated” coin that
features a P symbol representing the
Philadelphia Mint, with a certificate
of authenticity and housed
in Original Government
packaging.
