CommunityengagementisoneofthemainstrategiesemployedbythePEACEproject.This<br />
includestrainingprogrammesforformalandinformalcaregivers,programmesconductedamong<br />
olderadultstoincreasementalresilienceandphysicalwel-being,andengagementwithcivilsociety<br />
throughawarenesscampaigns,publicforumsandthemassmedia.Intheacademicsphere,PEACE<br />
hasanestablishednetworkofpost-graduatestudents,researchersandsupportingstafwhoactively<br />
conductstudies,designmodulesandguidelinesforEANmanagement,publishinscientificjournals<br />
anddisseminatelocalfindingsthroughvariouschannels.AddressingthelegalaspectofEANisa<br />
curentfocusinwhichPEACEpublichealthpractitionersareworkingcloselywithlegislators,the<br />
DepartmentofSocialWelfareandtheMinistryofWomen,FamilyandCommunityDevelopmentto<br />
pushfortheformulationofaspecificAct,whichisnotavailabletodate–toprotectMalaysianelders<br />
from altypesofabuseandexploitation.<br />
Interdisciplinarity brings various<br />
disciplines into a coordinated and<br />
coherentwhole.Leveragingthisquality,<br />
the PEACE initiative has managed to<br />
reachawideraudiencewhilecapitalising<br />
on each area ofspecialtyinvolved.As<br />
severalteamssittogetherandthinkabout<br />
asimilarproblem (EAN),eachgroupasks<br />
diferentquestions,focusondiferentsets<br />
ofdetails,makediferentassumptionsand<br />
takedistinctapproaches.Asaresult,new<br />
ideasandmethodsofproblem-solvingare<br />
generated.However,aninterdisciplinary<br />
arangementisnotwithoutchalenges.<br />
