UniversityofMalaya(UM)andtheQueen’sUniversityofBelfast(QUB),NorthernIreland<br />

hadamutualinterestincolaboratingintheareaofpublichealth.UM hasalonghistoryofpublic<br />

healtheducationandQUBaswelisrecognizedasoneofthetop5UKCentresofExcelencein<br />

PublicHealth.TheCentreforPopulationHealth(CePH)istheresultofcolaborativeworkbetween<br />

theDepartmentofSocialandPreventiveMedicineandtheCentreofPublicHealth,QUB.<br />

LaunchedbytheViceChancelorofUM in2009viaanMOUbetweenthetwoinstitutions,<br />

CePHhasavisiontobecomeaworld-classresearchcentreofexcelencethatwilleadinareas<br />

relatedtopopulationhealth.ThefocusareasofresearchcolaborationatCePHincludelowincome<br />

community,adolescenthealth,cancerresearchenhancementinitiatives,healthliteracy,andhealth<br />

systemsorientedresearchthatdirectlyinfluencehealthpolicies.<br />

Throughconsciouslybridgingthegapsbetweenresearchandpractice,professionalandpublic<br />

realmsaswelasimplementationofnewresearchprograms,discussions,anddevelopment,the<br />

centreaimstocontributenewevidenceandinsightinovercomingthehealthissuesoftheMalaysian<br />

population.<br />

CePHhasestablisheditselfasanavenuetoinitiateandpromoteresearchanddevelopment<br />

activitiesin the field ofpopulation health in colaboration with bodieslike the World Health<br />

Organizationaswelasuniversitiesandtheprivateandnon-governmentalorganisationsaroundthe<br />

world.CePHisalsohopingtoassisttheMinistryofHealthandotheragenciesinMalaysiainthe<br />

preventionofdiseasesandimprovingthequalityoflifeofthecommunity.<br />
