Theabilityofmobilehealthapplications<br />

to addressthe diverse needsofhealthcare<br />

userspresentsgreatpromiseforthegrowthof<br />

mHealth.However,successfulimplementation<br />

ofICT,particularly mobile usage,into the<br />

healthcaresystem dependsonanumberof<br />

factors ranging from user and physicians’<br />

acceptance to capacity development and<br />

network coverage. Most importantly, the<br />

success of mHealth is dependent on a<br />

strategicalyplanned,systematicalyconducted<br />

implementation that is fuly coordinated,<br />

managing work culture changes associated<br />

withtechnologyimplementationandsupporting<br />

end–users.<br />

While mHealth is stilin its infancy in<br />

developing countries, it has tremendous<br />

potential to grow if public and private<br />

organisationshavethevisiontoimplementthe<br />

rightpolicies.Developedwithinasustainable<br />

framework, mHealth can transform health<br />

systems, extending the reach of health<br />

informationandservicestoremoteareasand<br />

promoting a shifttoward citizen-empowered<br />

healthcaresystem.<br />

Fortechnology to provide solutions,it<br />

cannotbetheprivilegeofafew,butshould<br />

belonginthehandsofmany.mHealthcanhelp<br />

countries to transcend the knowledge,<br />

economic, and technological gaps by<br />

eliminating physical and geographical<br />

boundariesinthedeliveryofhealthcare,and<br />

reducing the costs ofdelivering services.<br />

Ultimately,theobjectiveofmHealthistogive<br />

everycitizenofacountryaccesstoqualitycare,<br />

timely and accurate information, and<br />

appropriate services thatcan change their<br />

lives.<br />
