Our <strong>Gold</strong> program is an active and healthy living program for<br />
older adults. The more you do, the greater the benefit!<br />
Bronze Level<br />
Enjoy our Heart of <strong>Gold</strong> classes<br />
Silver Level<br />
Take part in Heart of <strong>Gold</strong> classes, and add on Specialty<br />
programs, use our Fitness Centre, pool, do the lounge etc<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> Level<br />
Bronze & Silver, plus get involved in our <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Active<br />
<strong>Club</strong>s and/or become a <strong>Gold</strong> Ambassador (see info on back<br />
page).<br />
BE SOCIAL!<br />
Studies show that working out with a friend increases<br />
consistency and results. Our <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Lounge (tea &<br />
coffee), regular lectures, Potlucks, social events and<br />
<strong>Club</strong> activities are a great way to mix, mingle and<br />
meet new friends.<br />
Class Descriptions<br />
Heart of <strong>Gold</strong><br />
Heart of <strong>Gold</strong> is the core program of<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> and provides a general<br />
all-round workout to keep you moving<br />
and improve your cardio health and<br />
flexibility.<br />
Heart of <strong>Gold</strong> Plus<br />
<strong>Dovercourt</strong>’s signature Heart of <strong>Gold</strong><br />
class with a twist! Using a variety of<br />
equipment, <strong>Dovercourt</strong>’s instructors will<br />
improve your cardio, strength and<br />
flexibility and keep you moving. This<br />
class is suitable for those looking for a<br />
moderate to intense workout that’s fun<br />
and engaging.<br />
Small Group Strength<br />
Training<br />
This program takes place in the weight<br />
room where one of <strong>Dovercourt</strong>’s Certified<br />
Personal Trainers will create an<br />
individualized work-out designed for<br />
your fitness needs. During the class, you<br />
will perform your routine while the<br />
trainer circulates and gives assistance.<br />
The small class size allows for lots of<br />
personal attention.<br />

Strong Spines<br />
This class was created to address the<br />
common complaint of back pain. Using a<br />
variety of exercises that focus on form<br />
and proper body alignment you will<br />
build support for the spine and strengthen<br />
your core and commonly injured<br />
areas like the shoulders, hips and low<br />
back.<br />
gold strength, BALANCE<br />
& mobility<br />
A fun and creative class! Experience a<br />
variety of exercises designed to improve<br />
your strength and balance. This class<br />
focuses on functional fitness to make<br />
everyday movements easier and maintain<br />
your active lifestyle. A variety of<br />
equipment will be used in this class.<br />
BALANCE, CORE AND FLEXIBILTY<br />
This class addresses the top three issues<br />
for active aging: core strength, balance<br />
and flexibility. Exercises are done in a<br />
slow and controlled manner, with<br />
options given to suit your body’s<br />
abilities.<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> Yoga<br />
Yoga is an ancient practice to strengthen<br />
the body, improve flexibility and<br />
integrate mind, body and spirit. Slow<br />
down and take a moment to breathe and<br />
enjoy the moment. Mats are provided<br />
but participants are welcome to bring<br />
their own.<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> Aquafit<br />
Experience the weightlessness of water<br />
while you improve your fitness in<br />
<strong>Dovercourt</strong>’s heated pool. Aquafitness is<br />
great for older adults with joint issues<br />
such as arthritis or hip and knee replacements.<br />
Why not relax and socialize in the<br />
hot tub and sauna after your class?<br />
simply stretch & better balance<br />
This class will practice both using<br />
practical and realistic movement. The<br />
goal is to improve/maintain range of<br />
joint movement and prevent falls by<br />
gaining strength and stability through<br />
body weight exercises. Enjoy a great<br />
variety of stretches and exercises<br />
performed at your personal level of<br />
comfort.

Who Is <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> For?<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> is for active older adults 55+ looking for daytime<br />
opportunities to exercise, socialize, develop new friendships<br />
and share interests.<br />
Why exercise with <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong>?<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Programs are designed by professional instructors,<br />
trainers, and Active Aging experts to address the physical,<br />
neurological and social elements of aging. We have 20<br />
weekly classes to improve your fitness, or help you return to<br />
exercise after an illness or injury. Our staff can modify<br />
programs to suit yours need and help you find your fit at<br />
<strong>Dovercourt</strong>!<br />
Heartwise Exercise<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> is proud to be recognized by the Ottawa Heart<br />
Institute as an approved Heartwise Exercise site. Heartwise<br />
programs are physician approved and suitable for preventing<br />
and recovering from heart disease, strokes and many chronic<br />
health conditions.<br />
PAR-Q and Doctor’s Advice<br />
Not sure if you are ready to start an exercise program? We can<br />
provide you with a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire<br />
to assess whether you should talk to your doctor before<br />
joining <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong>.<br />

activities<br />
Join us for active living and general interest clubs led by<br />
our <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Ambassadors. Ambassadors are members<br />
who lead clubs, volunteer with our rehab programs, assist<br />
in special events, and help to welcome new members to<br />
<strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong>.<br />
Share your interests, volunteer, or simply come and learn<br />
something new with other <strong>Club</strong> members!<br />

Pass Details & Policies<br />
• The <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>Club</strong> membership includes all Heart of <strong>Gold</strong><br />
classes, daily lounge, rec swims, hot tub and sauna access,<br />
as well as use of the Fitness Centre.<br />
• Pass suspensions are available for absences of a minimum<br />
30 days, with 30 day’s notice. Please see the Customer<br />
Service to initiate a suspension.<br />
• Members must have an active pass in order to participate in<br />
registered Specialty classes.<br />
• Specialty classes are not pro-rated or refundable.<br />
• EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) is recommended for ease of<br />
renewing and maintaining an active account. Those not<br />
using EFT may purchase a 90 day pass paid in full.<br />
• For credit / refund due to medical reasons, a doctor’s note<br />
is required to be submitted within the session.<br />
• Alternate scheduling to Heart of <strong>Gold</strong> classes may occur<br />
due to special programming (PD Day, March break, etc.).<br />
Members are asked to check in at Customer Service desks,<br />
Assembly Hall Door, and online for scheduling updates.
