Youth Athletics<br />

Basketball games began at the <strong>Mauldin</strong><br />

Sports Center in <strong>January</strong> with over 320<br />

participants this season. Playoffs begin<br />

on February 12 and will be followed<br />

with All-Star games at the beginning of<br />

March.<br />

Registration for spring sports began in<br />

<strong>January</strong>, including baseball for 2-12,<br />

softball, and lacrosse. This will be the<br />

fourth year of the lacrosse program, and as the program continues to grow there are<br />

new opportunities for volunteer lacrosse coaches. Other sports will begin registration in<br />

February, including flag football and baseball for ages 13-14.<br />

This year’s spring baseball program, which follows the Dixie Youth Rules, will be<br />

required to follow a new bat rule stating all bats must be stamped “USA Baseball.”<br />

Sports Center<br />

December was an exciting month for the Sports Center. The 12 Days of Fitness<br />

Challenge was a huge success with more than 60 participants and more than 170 fitness<br />

classes were taught over the month. Classes were also taught at Oakview Elementary<br />

School to fourth and fifth graders. Fitness opportunities continue in <strong>January</strong> with the<br />

Biggest Loser Competition, which is projected to see more than 50 entrants.<br />

The Sports Center organized a Christmas Giving Tree drive, themed as a “patriot
