5th Grade Receives Tree,
Bench & Plaque
From Digger’s Hotline of Nebraska
On April 25, the 5th grade class was presented with
a complimentary tree, bench and commemorative
plaque from the Digger's Hotline of Nebraska. They
needed to comply with the Nebraska law which requires
that you call 811 to put in a locate request at least two
business days prior to the planting on April 25th. It was
decided that the tree would be planted in the Stuart
Park, so they went to the tree experts Glen and Marylyn
Revelle. Glen and Marylyn helped them locate a spot
for the tree and Glen dug the hole. The 5th grade class
thanks them for all their help on this project. The tree
which is a red maple was planted east of the soccer
fields. The bench is placed by the playground and the
plaque is in the hallway. They enjoyed taking part in the
Safe Digging Pirate Adventure sponsored by the Nebraska
One Call Board of Directors and Digger's Hotline
of Nebraska.

Monday morning Gayle led a
group of residents in a reminisce
group. We enjoy this as everyone
gets to think about their younger
days and all the things that happened,
and how different things are
today. Later in the morning, the
folks who enjoy helping with cooking
met to peel three dozen eggs
and make them into deviled eggs,
which were served with crackers for
social hour. In the afternoon, the
geography group met and spent
some interesting time together
learning all about Canada. At 4:00,
everyone was really happy to have
Deb Kaup come to entertain us with
her piano playing.
The Rosary was prayed in the
chapel Tuesday morning with
Agnes Krobot being the leader.
Exercise was done to the music
tape this morning. A couple more
chapters of the “Little House” book
were read. A large crowd was in
the dining room after lunch for
Bingo, which continues to be one of
our favorite activities. The folks
who helped were Kathy Norton,
Judy Schmitz, and Pat Larsen. The
ladies stayed to enjoy a cup of coffee
with the residents. We are always
happy to have the Assisted
Living ladies join us every week for
Bingo also.
Wednesday morning the cooking
group met again to make six
different kinds of muffins. They
always think this is fun, and they
are more than happy to eat the
muffins for social hour. Judy was
busy in the beauty shop most of the
day. Amber played a couple of
games of horseshoes with the residents
in the late morning. In the
afternoon, Rhonda took a group of
people on a van ride; they toured
the north and south country. It
sounded like they had a great time.
Other people spent the time just
sitting outside in the warm sunshine.
We have had lots of residents
going out for walks every
day. After social hour, the Wednesday
movie was shown.

ple met and put together a couple of
puzzles. A trivia session was also held
this morning. Exercise was again done
to the music tape. Diana was here to do
hairstyles today. After lunch, several
folks went outside to try to get our vegetable
garden planted. Of course, before
we got completely finished, it had started
raining, so we had to quit. The onions
still aren’t planted. In the afternoon,
Thirsty Thursday was held with a great
crowd in attendance. Today, we served
mini pizzas and all the favorite beverages.
It is a great time for friends and
family to get together with their loved
ones. The reading group met afterwards,
and enjoyed a few short stories.
Pastor April Peterson was here to
lead the Protestant church service Friday
morning. Amber played several games
of Wii bowling with the residents. A
group of others were watching and
cheering them on. Most of the ladies
were pampered today by having their
nails freshly polished.
They enjoy this, and like
to pick their favorite color
to put on each week.
Father Luke Steffes was
here to celebrate Mass
with the residents and
people from the community.
Root beer floats
were served for social
time today with a large
crowd of residents and
their families in attendance.
Frank Murphy
was here in the late afternoon
to entertain with
his great music. If we
don’t have Frank here on
Friday, it is a really bad
thing. He is a very faithful
volunteer.
The weekend was
full with lots of visitors
around, and lots of our
residents went out with
their families for gatherings.
The weather was
very cooperative for people
to be out and about.
A Catholic Communion
service was also held
Sunday morning.

Niobrara Valley Conference Art Show
Over 1000 pieces of high school and junior high artwork, representing 16 area schools, were on display on Friday
April 27th in Lynch, Nebraska at the Lynch Public School Gym, as part of this year’s Niobrara Valley Conference Art
Show.
The Niobrara Valley Conference Art Show was open to the public and free of charge. The artwork on display represented
the yearlong efforts of hundreds of art students throughout this area. Categories were as diverse as the students
that entered work with drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, and more.
Schools showing artwork included: Chambers, Orchard-
Clearwater, Elgin, Ewing, Keya Paha County, Lynch, Niobrara,
Pope John, Rock County, O’Neill Saint Mary’s, Stuart, Verdigre,
West Boyd, Santee, and Wheeler Central.
The judges for this year’s art show were Jim Taylor of Stuart,
NE and Kevin McNichols of O’Neill, NE for the high school. The
junior high judge was Terri Schacht of Orchard, NE.
This was an excellent opportunity to view the artwork and appreciate
the talent showcased in the Niobrara Valley Conference
Art Show. The students of Stuart high school did a fine job of
bringing home the ribbons. This year students were Charles
Moore, Dakota Murphy, Monica Vogel and Chaelly Fahrenhoz. Following

Keystone XL Lawsuit
Opponents of the Keystone XL pipeline filed a lawsuit with the Nebraska
Supreme Court on Wednesday challenging the constitutionality of
the pipeline siting law passed in the 2012 legislative session.
Omaha Attorneys- David Domina and Brian Jorde representing the
landowners stated this lawsuit is designed very much to ensure that the
constitution is honored by what the Legislature enacts,” The 13-page suit
names landowners Randy Thompson of Martell, Susan Luebbe of Stuart
and Susan Dunavan of McCool Junction as plaintiffs and Gov. Dave
Heineman, State Treasurer Don Stenberg and DEQ Director Mike Linder
as defendants.

Junior High Bronco Athletes
Set New Records
During the past junior high track season, various Bronco
athletes were able set new records on the junior high track record
board. Both the boys and girls 3200 meter relays were
able to break previously established marks. The girls relay consisted
of Haley Paxton, Harlee Fischer, Allison Stracke and Rachel
Kaup. The boys relay was made of Franklin Fessler, Micah
Dexter, Conner Jarman, and Tate Schmaderer. Rachel Kaup
was also able to set new records in the girls 7th grade 400 meter
dash and the 800 meter run. Harlee Fischer established a new
mark in the 7th grade 1600 meters, while Trisha Fox established
a new mark in the discus. The final record broke this year was
the girls
1600 meter
relay.

Nurse Anesthesia at

Rowan plans to graduate
from college in
2013. Jodi Schroeder is
Amanda Rowan pursuing a Radiography Jodi Schroeder
degree at the Avera
Sacred Heart Hospital School of Radiologic Technology with plans to graduate
in 2013. Schroeder is a 2009 graduate of West Holt High School. Abigael Olson
graduated from West Holt High School this May and plans to attend medical
school after graduating from Dordt College with a Major in Chemistry in
2016.
The next deadline for scholarship application submission is November 15.

Nebraska Cattlemen Midyear Meeting in Atkinson/Stuart area
Nebraska Cattlemen are welcoming people to
the hometown area of their President Jim Ramm
for this year’s Nebraska Cattlemen Midyear
Meeting.
Jim would like to invite everyone out to the Atkinson/Stuart
area for the meeting activities on June 7th and 8th.
“I am very excited to have cattlemen from across the state
coming to my hometown to grow and share their knowledge to
help further define the policies of Nebraska Cattlemen,” said
Jim.
Ramm continues, “We will have the opportunity to honor
our young people for their academic accomplishments and use
this meeting as a teaching opportunity to keep our youth engaged
in the beef industry.”
June 7th will begin with Board of Director meetings then
leads into an afternoon of golf and area tours.
In the evening there will be a welcome reception at the Stuart
Auditorium. Friday, June 8th will begin with registration at
7:00 a.m. followed by three sets of committee meetings and the
Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation luncheon.
As in years past the six policy committees will be meeting
to discuss issues and policy relative to their respective
areas. They will meet on Friday, June 8 at West Holt Public
School.
The Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation
will hold their annual luncheon to announce the Retail Value
Steer Challenge results as well as recognize the recipients of
this year’s youth scholarships.
The general session will be a great opportunity to listen to
the U.S. Olympic bobsled gold medal winner, Curt Tomasevicz
and the 2010 National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President
Steve Foglesong.
The BQA Trainer of the Year will also be announced at the
general session. The general session will conclude the Midyear
Meeting.
