Ballfield
Dedication
To Del Stracke
Former Village Clerk
and Treasurer Del Stracke
was honored Monday evening
on the 4 th of June for
his 38 years of public service
to the Village of Stuart.
A ceremony was held
between the two ball fields
where a plaque was unveiled
dedicating the ball
fields in his name. Del
was instrumental in obtaining
grants for the construction
of both fields using the
Land and Water Conservation
Fund program from
the Nebraska Game and
Parks Commission. The
first field constructed was
the east field built in 1972.
The second field to the
west was built in 1983.
Numerous improvements
have been made over the
years making the Stuart
Ball Field Complex one of
the best in the area for a
TAKE PRIDE in STUART’S Future——–Shop at HOME
small community. Currently the complex is home to eight different teams, 3 girl’s softball
teams, 2 t-ball teams, a t-shirt team, and 2 men’s softball teams. Del was active in coaching
many of the teams that have played on the fields over the last 5 decades. Although Del
officially retired from the Village Clerk and Treasurer position in 2009, he continues to
serve the community as a member of the Village Board of Trustees, a Stuart Development
Corporation Director, a Wrangler board member, and a Stuart Athletic Club member.
Bloodmobile to be in Stuart
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Stuart Auditorium on Wednesday,
June 20, 2012 from 11:00am until 5:00 pm.
The need for blood is constant. Every day, patients in local communities
are helped by blood donors who give at blood drives coordinated by generous
volunteers. Here are a few examples of patients you are helping with your
blood donation:
A child with sickle cell disease was given 10 units of type B negative red
cells
In just 2 days, 17 units of platelets, 5 units of cryoprecipitate, 51 units of
red cells, and 53 units of plasma were needed to treat a child heart transplant
patient
8 units of red blood cells helped stabilize a 30 year old female trauma patient
A new mother received 2 units of red cells after delivering her baby
2 organ transplant patients needed a combined total of 30 units of type B
positive blood cells
A pregnant mother undergoing an intra-uterine transfusion for her baby
needed a special antigen screened type O negative unit of red cells
It’s up to each of us to take a step. Become a donor when the Bloodmobile
is in Stuart! Live Life. Give Life.
The Red Cross will have two double red cell machines at the Stuart drive.
If you are a double red cell blood donor or would like to become one, call Abby
Wondercheck at 924-3041 for an appointment. There are other qualifications
in addition to the regular ones for becoming a double red cell donor.
Since blood types O+, O-, A-, and B- are always in high demand and at
risk for shortages, donor with these blood types are urged to consider giving a
double red cell donation whenever possible. If you don’t know your blood type,
on site blood type screening is available to qualify first time donors.
Need an appointment? Call Abby Wondercheck at 924-3041 or Donna
Malone at 924-3469 today! See you at the bloodmobile on Wednesday, June
20, 2012!
The Wrangler
This week started off with Monday
being Memorial Day. The residents
enjoyed watching the veterans
march to Parkside on their way
to the cemetery. In the afternoon,
we watched a movie and had some
snacks. There
were lots of visitors
in the facility
today, and we
are always
happy to see
them.
The Rosary
was prayed in
the chapel Tuesday
morning
with Agnes Krobot
being the
leader. Exercise
was done to the
music tape.
Diana was busy
in the beauty shop today. Several
devotional readings were presented,
and then we finished reading
the first “Little House on the
Prairie” book. The folks enjoyed
the story so much, and are anxious
to move on to the second one in the
series. The West Holt Memorial
Hospital staff hosted Bingo today.
The folks who were here to help
were Kevin Murphy, Jacque Steinhauser,
and Monique Johnson.
After we all had a snack, Amber
took a group of people on a van
ride where they visited the cemetery
in Stuart and in Atkinson.
Wednesday morning, some
ladies got together and put together
a couple of puzzles, and some others
were playing checkers. We
also had a couple of residents
shredding papers today. Judy was
doing hair styles in the beauty
shop. The ladies, especially, look
forward to their beauty days. A
lively game of Frisbee was played
in the living room right before lunch.
A game of Summertime Jingo was
played in the afternoon. The
weekly Wednesday movie was
shown after social hour. People
are spending time outside every
day that the weather is favorable.
The craft group met Thursday morning
to work on some more door hangers.
These will be used for summer. Other
folks watched the video on “Baby
Faces.” This is so funny but so cute.
Exercise was done
in the living room.
Amber and the residents
played “King
on the Corner” in the
afternoon. We were
happy to have a
large crowd on hand
for Thirsty Thursday.
The residents really
look forward to this
afternoon activity.
Today, we served
nachos and cheese
along with all the
of Parkside.
Friday morning,
Pastor Richard and
Mrs. Kothe were here to lead the weekly
Protestant church service. Beth Prussa
was here to play the organ for the hymns
that were sung. Most of the ladies visited
the nail spa today to have fresh polish
put on and enjoy some pampering.
Hello from The Good Samaritan
Society! The Protestant Church services
were held by Pastor Ila and
Ann on Sunday morning in the
chapel. The Catholic communion
was offered in room. The residents
joined each other for ice cream and
coffee during the Sundae Social. We
had a good Memorial Day on Monday,
it is important to stop and think
of the special men and women who
have served in the armed forces.
Several residents were up and
ready for Fitness and Roll N Stroll on
Tuesday. The Rosary was offered at
11:00 a.m. Tuesdays are a fun day
for the residents to get out and play
some Bingo. The first to Bingo was
Randy Jackson, The Four Corners
winners were Mary Biltoft and Louis
Kliment. The Blackout winners were
Arlene Winings, Shirley Sterns, Mary
Albrecht, Pauline Blake, LaVerne
Dobrovolny, Pat Goeke, Mildred
Swim, and Louis Kliment. We held
Atkinson Good Samaritan Society/Prairie Winds News
Balloons activity at 4:30 p.m. Many residents were out to engage in the card
game UNO in the evening.
Wednesday Pastor Forney held the Church Services. Several residents
attended the Atkinson Senior Center for Keenagers. This is a great opportunity
for them to go eat lunch and celebrate the Birthdays for the month of May.
The residents celebrating May Birthdays were David Stephenson, Ramona
Colsden, and Jean Truman. Vivian Hickok from Prairie Winds Assisted Living
celebrated a Birthday as well. Many women came out to get their nails done in
the afternoon, this is an enjoyable time for them.
Chair Dancing was offered for the residents, which is a great chance to
have fun and get some exercise. We read What’s in the News to the residents
to keep them up to date on the latest happenings, locally and around the
world. Many residents took pleasure in going on a Bus Ride around Atkinson
and Stuart, we enjoyed ice cream as well. It was a beautiful day for the residents
to get out and about.
Father Luke held Mass Friday morning in the Chapel. During Baking they
made peanut butter cookies, which were enjoyed by the residents and staff.
“The Vow” was playing for Friday Night at the Movies.
We had the Coffee Klache Saturday.
This is a great chance for the residents
to socialize with each other, family and
friends. The Larwence Welk show was
available in their rooms to watch. The
residents and staff had fun watching the
caterpillars transform into butterflies dur-
ing the last couple of weeks, we then set
them free last Friday. The staff and residents
thoughts and prayers are with the
family of Shirley Evans. She was a wonderful
person to care for.
The Good Samaritan Society residents
enjoyed a bus ride around Atkinson
and Stuart.
