Beyond that, it is a matter of vision and
understanding how to control the car once you drive
beyond the limit of grip — keeping your head up and
looking in the direction you want to go, and steering in
that direction. Of course, all of this is easier said than
done but this is also difficult to understand until you are
in the situation yourself. Ultimately, nothing beats seat
time and practice in these conditions.

yourself, it would be worth your money to book a flight
out to Sweden during the winter months and sign up for
one of the many ice driving programmes. When the lakes
freeze over, there are usually outfits that set up courses
to teach drivers how to handle these tricky conditions
— and there’s no safer place to pirouette around in an
out-of-control slide than an empty frozen lake. If you’re
the kind of person who enjoys driving, it’s definitely the
experience of a lifetime.
