Pupils perform musical SCHOOLS
SENIOR PUPILS at Cotswold
recently put on a show called
The Button Box – a musical
written by John Gleadall.
It was a story about Jack,
played by nine-year-old Carter
Rhodes, and Alice, played by
11-year-old Sophie Drury,
who stay with their grandparents
and become bored on a
wet day.
The children knock over
grandma’s button box, spilling
an array of buttons onto the
floor. Grandma was played
by 11-year-old Willow Kite,
and grandpa was played by
11-year-old Jessie Winter.
The children ask her to tell
them where all the buttons
came from and the story
behind each button is revealed
in songs.
The school put on two
evening performances and a
daytime performance for parents
and the community.
“Going up on the stage was
scary but really exciting,” said
Henry Goodall, 9.

Gemma Hardcastle, 11, said:
“I really enjoyed preparing
and practicing for the show.
Mum, dad, nana, granddad
and my brother came to
watch. They were all really
proud.”
Caleb McKibbin, 9, said: “I
liked dressing up and dancing
an African dance.”

Scholarship for famine effort
RANGI RURU students got
behind the World Vision
40-hour famine, raising $3500
and earning the school a
scholarship.
More than a third of the entire
student body took part in
this year’s famine after Lily Lee
and Willa Jones led the school
in its fundraising drive.
Because of their efforts the
school was awarded a World
Vision senior scholarship
award.
Flossie van der Pol was
chosen as the recipient of the
scholarship which entitled her
to four days of global education,
leadership development
and social action training in
Auckland.
“Meeting refugees at the
Refugee Resettlement Camp
[in Auckland] was really eyeopening
as I could see how
much they appreciated having
security after their years of
extreme hardship,” she said.
