Dads of Fendalton Open-air pupils took a day off work recently to spend a day at school<br />
with their children. Every year at Fendalton Open-air, the school opens its doors to its pupils’<br />
dads for a day they call read, feed and speed. Year three team leader Deborah Davids said<br />
hundreds of dads, granddads, uncles, big brothers and family friends attended on the day<br />
and were welcomed by the school’s kapa haka group. “Fathers spent time reading with and<br />
to their children, enjoyed a sausage sizzle and a fun, and at times very competitive, game<br />
of football,” she said. “The children love it and fathers take time off work for what is a great<br />
celebration of sharing learning and enjoying sportsmanship together.”<br />

LEARNING TO SAVE LIVES: After a Belfast pupil got medical<br />
assistance for his grandmother recently, St John went to his<br />
school to teach pupils CPR. Zack noticed something wasn’t<br />
right about his grandma after she had a fall and insisted his<br />
family call for medical assistance. His instinct was right, as<br />
ongoing care for his grandma was needed. Now other pupils<br />
at his school are learning from St John how to perform in a<br />
CPR flashmob.<br />
