Take your knitting, crochet or any other craft project along. Learn some new skills, help others and find creative ideas for a new project. Beginners are welcome. Pick up some books for your next craft project while you’re there. Linwood Library, Eastgate Shopping Centre. Free entry Creative Writing Wednesday, 4-5.45pm If your imagination runs wild and you want to learn how to put those ideas on paper in a way that makes sense, head along to these creative writing classes. All are welcome whether you’re new to creative writing or just want to hone your skills, pick up some tips or learn from other aspiring writers. Find some fictional books while you’re at the library. Linwood Library, Eastgate Shopping Centre. Free entry Shannon Söderlund Wednesday, 7.30-9pm New York-based singersongwriter Shannon Söderlund tows the line between pop and rock. Her songs and performances capture the complexities she sees in life, including the highs, lows, Email caitlin.miles@starmedia.kiwi by 5pm each Wednesday trails and joys of it all. Laughter Club Wednesday, 6-7pm The focus of the club is to get over the stress of the first part of the week and have a positive outlook for the rest. The event aims to release endorphins, which helps to relax people and lower stress levels. There won’t be any comedy, stand-up or jokes at this session. You are encouraged to make yourself laugh at nothing at all for the purpose of relaxing. There will be many fun science activities and new interesting topics each week. Qualified educators lead children through interactive activities to stimulate their interest in science. Free entry Cake Garage Sale Saturday, 8am-noon The combined Hillmorton and Canterbury cake decorating guilds will hold a massive garage sale. Cake decorating equipment and books will be on sale, as well as a grocery raffle and sausage sizzle. Cash only. All proceeds go towards hosting the National Cake Decorators’ Conference in Christchurch on October 27-29, 2017. St Martin’s Church Hall, 60 Lincoln Rd Super Saturday Storytimes Saturday, 11-11.30am This event aims to encourage children to read through exciting and engaging story telling. Storytimes involves interacting with other children, songs, rhymes and play. While you’re there, collect some books for the children to take home and read. South Library, 66 Colombo St. Free entry Big Band Dance Saturday, 7-11pm Put on your best 1940s clothes and be transported back to the time with some classic music from the era. The Big Band sound will make you tap your feet and want to get up and dance, showing off your INTERPRETATIONS: As part of a multi-cultural exhibition and festival, the Eastside Gallery presented a challenge to local artists to re-create the Green Lady by Vladimir Tretchikoff. Artists were given free rein to interpret the piece as they see it through their artistic style and differences. Through pencil, water colour, oil and acrylic paint, it’s a unique opportunity to look through an artists eyes and give you some insight into what they see.
