The Salvation Army Family Stores throughout the country are well<br />
known as places to find quality second-hand items of all kinds, from<br />
clothing and books, to toys, furniture and crockery.<br />
Generous people in the community donate the items,<br />
with the organistaion using the proceeds from the sales<br />
to fund their wide range of charitable activities.<br />
There are two Salvation Army stores in the Addington<br />
area, one in Lincoln Road and the other in Poulson<br />
Street, with the proceeds from the Poulson St outlet<br />
being used to run their long-established hostel, which<br />
caters for males struggling with life.<br />
“The hostel accommodates males from the age of 18<br />
or 19 upwards,” Salvation Army spokesperson Natasha<br />
Campbell says.<br />
“They come from all walks of life, and having time<br />
there allows them to reintegrate back into society.<br />
Their accommodation is fully equipped and they get<br />
three square meals a day.”<br />
The hostel is completely full at present, with residents<br />
allowed to stay for a maximum of three months.<br />
The Poulson St store sells furniture, bedding and<br />
children’s toys, which people can drop off at the store.<br />
“We are always in need of good-quality mattresses,<br />
sheets and blankets,” Natasha says.<br />
Donated sheets and towels are also used to supply<br />
the hostel and we are especially in need of towels, she<br />
says.<br />
Many of the items sold at the Lincoln Rd store are<br />
newer and include clothing, nick nacks, collectibles<br />
and a wide range of household items.<br />
The stores are located at 62 Poulson St and 300<br />
Lincoln Rd and staff are always very pleased to accept<br />
items in good condition that people no longer need.<br />
