MORE THAN 100 students piled<br />

into the Selwyn House hall for<br />

the annual Girls’ Canterbury<br />

Inter-School Chess Competition<br />

And after a fierce day’s playing,<br />

it was schools from the west that<br />

dominated the winners’<br />

list.<br />

Waimairi Primary School<br />

won the year 1 to 6 competition,<br />

Selwyn House won year 7 to 8<br />

and Christchurch Girls’ High<br />

School won the year 9 to 13.<br />

CHRISTCHURCH BOYS’ High<br />

School students have proved they<br />

know their way around a bunsen<br />

burner.<br />

One hundred and eighty<br />

students from the school took<br />

part in the International Competitions<br />

and Assessments for<br />

Schools science competition.<br />

Of those 180, two were placed<br />

in the top one per cent of the<br />

980,000 students from across<br />

Oceania who competed.<br />

Duncan Hamilton from year<br />

9 and Jack Zidich from year 13<br />

both received high distinction<br />

certificates for their efforts.<br />

Another 25 students were<br />

placed in the top 10 per cent,<br />

winning distinction certificates.<br />

They were – Edison Chow,<br />

Douglas McClunie, Cameron<br />

Talbot and Jake Hollows, year 9.<br />
