MORE THAN 100 students piled
into the Selwyn House hall for
the annual Girls’ Canterbury
Inter-School Chess Competition
And after a fierce day’s playing,
it was schools from the west that

dominated the winners’
list.
Waimairi Primary School
won the year 1 to 6 competition,
Selwyn House won year 7 to 8
and Christchurch Girls’ High
School won the year 9 to 13.

CHRISTCHURCH BOYS’ High
School students have proved they
know their way around a bunsen
burner.
One hundred and eighty
students from the school took
part in the International Competitions
and Assessments for
Schools science competition.
Of those 180, two were placed
in the top one per cent of the
980,000 students from across
Oceania who competed.
Duncan Hamilton from year
9 and Jack Zidich from year 13
both received high distinction
certificates for their efforts.
Another 25 students were
placed in the top 10 per cent,
winning distinction certificates.
They were – Edison Chow,
Douglas McClunie, Cameron
Talbot and Jake Hollows, year 9.
