Talented young players looking forward to tournament
This weekend Coastal Spirit Football Club will
send an U13 boys side to compete in the Kanga
Cup Youth Football Tournament in Canberra,
Australia. The Kanga Cup is the largest youth
football tournament in the Southern Hemisphere,
with club teams from Australia, New Zealand, and
Asia taking part.
The team is made up of 12 and 13 year old boys
who are members of the clubs 12th and 13th
grade teams playing in the Mainland Football
competition.
The Kanga Cup is an important step in the
club’s development pathway, with many current
MPL and WPL players such as Tristan Nicol,

Nicholson all playing at the tournament in
previous years. Paul Bateson, the club’s Football
Development Manager, stressed the importance
of participating in such a tournament, “Last season,
the club couldn’t get a team over there so this year
it was vital to get back on track. The impetus that
will hit the guys on their return will be massive. We
are already putting a development opportunity to
replace the recently dissolved Nike Cup to ensure
they can work toward their next challenge”.

the past 6 months or so under the leadership of

for the challenge ahead. The group had a tough
season last year but have bounced back to play
some expansive, attacking football and jump to
the top three in their division with the chance of
been promoted back to Division 1 for next season.
“I have high expectations of this group of
athletes as they follow in the steps of past Coastal
Spirit teams to not only compete but succeed at
this prestigious event”, stated Bateson. “The club
believe this will give these aspiring footballers
fantastic experience to grow into great people
and great footballers”.
We are fortunate that we have had a great bunch
of parents and staff who have worked tirelessly
to make this trip happen through fundraising
and organising logistics. Bateson wanted to
make mention to the people that have made
this happen. “The club are grateful to all families,
sponsors, funders and supporters that have made
this happen”.
