The new Construction qualification<br />

offered at SIT’s Christchurch campus<br />

from 2018 is the New Zealand Certificate<br />

in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) –<br />

Carpentry. This programme is designed<br />

to provide the wider construction trades<br />

sector with work-ready people able to<br />

enter the construction trades as a labourer<br />

or an apprentice.<br />

If you are new to the Construction<br />

industry and intending to train to become<br />

an apprentice, then this is the perfect<br />

course for you. Skills involved include<br />

health, safety and compliance, effective<br />

communication, plans and specifications,<br />

calculations, carpentry terminology<br />

and concepts, building terminology,<br />

carpentry processes and concepts,<br />

building foundations and flooring,<br />

structural elements and building<br />

interior.<br />

This new programme is subject<br />

to accreditation and approval but<br />

once confirmed will be offered from<br />
