for McIlroy twins

THE RESULT may not
have gone in their favour
but Saturday’s Coleman
Shield final was a special
occasion for twin brothers
Scott and Blair McIlroy.
Loose forward Blair
brought up his 200th
game for Darfield on
Saturday, while prop Scott
played his 203rd for the
club.
The pair have been
playing for so long that
some of their teammates
were only beginning
life at the club while the
McIlroys, both 33, have
been playing for the
division one side.
“Some of them were still
playing midgets when we
were playing senior rugby.
Now we’re playing senior
rugby with them,” said

Saturday’s final loss was
Scott’s last match for the
club. However, it will still
play a large part in his life.
“I’ll take on the job of
president at the rugby
club here for the next two
years. My knee’s no good
as well so that made the
decision for me I guess,”
said Scott.
Meanwhile, next year’s
division one side is
expected to once again
feature the McIlroy name.
“Yeah, I’ll have another
go and see what happens,”
said Blair.
