Museum -<br />

Wonderful Local Heritage<br />

Explore the wonderful world of local<br />

heritage at South Canterbury Museum<br />

in Timaru. From fossils to fashions, there<br />

are hundreds of things to see. Discover<br />

wildlife and geology, learn about local<br />

Maori history, the arrival of European<br />

settlers, social history and everyday life<br />

during the last 150 years.<br />

Changing exhibitions include “Hell Let<br />

Loose” a World War 1 centenary show<br />

running until February 2018, followed by<br />

a 1970’s local music exhibition from late<br />

February.<br />

There are puzzles, dress-ups and<br />

mystery quizzes for children, while the<br />

Museum’s research area provides a huge<br />

selection of documentary resources for<br />

digging deeper. Local heritage films can<br />

be viewed in the Heritage Theatre, while<br />

souvenirs, gifts and local history books<br />

or DVDs are available for purchase in<br />

the museum shop.<br />

South Canterbury Museum is open<br />

Tuesday to Friday 10am-4.30pm and<br />

weekends and public holidays from<br />

1pm-4.30pm.<br />

Caroline Bay Carnival<br />

brings new acts<br />

Christmas holidays should include<br />

visiting the Caroline Bay Annual Carnival<br />

and it should be high on your list these<br />

holidays, with a variety line up of talent<br />

and free concerts each day now at 2pm<br />

& 7pm.<br />

Beginning Dec 26th and running<br />

for 13 days the programme is full of<br />

entertainment as well as The Drama<br />

Queens, Jenny Mitchell, Whenua<br />

Patuwai plus X Factor Australia finalist<br />

Luke Kennedy.<br />

We have many games and rides and<br />

contests for the different age groups<br />

& also the very popular Alpine Energy<br />

Talent Quest with junior, intermediate &<br />

senior sections. .<br />

New Year’s Eve has a planned 2 hour<br />

concert from 9pm with a Bee Gees &<br />

Jersey Boys Show & again at Midnight<br />

the Pub Charity Fireworks display to see<br />

in the New year.<br />

Mini Golf and its 18 holes are open from<br />

10am, train rides, the games and rides<br />

from around 11am. Be sure to check<br />

out the Merry Go Round, Octopus, Big<br />

Wheel, Chair O Plane and many other<br />

rides operate throughout the day &<br />

evening. Or checkout the variety of<br />

games including the Chocolate Wheel,<br />

housie, with teddies, chocolates & many<br />

other prizes to be won.<br />

Talent Quest entry forms are available<br />

via email so contact the Secretary to<br />

receive one, entries close 4th Jan.<br />

they have been getting things ready so<br />

your Carnival visit is an enjoyable one so<br />
