GOVERNMENT ENSURING A SAFE community FREE RADON TESTS AVAILABLE GET YOUR FREE RADON TEST KIT AT WWW.TCHD.ORG More than 50 percent of Colorado homes have high levels of radon. Why is that important? Because radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally in the environment and is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind cigarette smoking. In Colorado, approximately 500 people die annually from radon-induced lung cancer. In Arapahoe County, 54 percent of household radon tests were above the recommended EPA action limit of 4 pCi/L. In Adams and Douglas Counties that rate was 50 percent. Although there is no safe level of radon, it is easy to test your home and radon levels can be reduced with a radon mitigation system. Tri-County Health Department is making it even easier as the department is providing free radon test kits. The EPA and Surgeon General recommend fixing homes that have levels at or above 4pCi/L. Living in a home with the average radon level of 6.4 pCi/L for a year is like having more than 200 chest x-rays every year. That is more than three chest x-rays per week, per person, per year, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The average price of a radon mitigation system in Colorado is $800 to $1,200. Take action and get a free radon test kit so you don’t have to guess anymore about your safety. Should testing results indicate radon levels below 4pCi/L, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recommends retesting every 2-3 years to be sure the levels haven’t changed. GOVERNMENT CARSON SKATEPARK EXPANSION PUBLIC MEETING FEBRUARY 27, 2018, 6:30 P.M. Whether you ride regular or goofy footed, prefer bowl or street terrain, we need your input for a planned expansion to the Village’s Skatepark at a public meeting on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 6060 South Quebec Street. The purpose of the public meeting is to receive citizen input as to the features to include in the Carson Skatepark expansion. Greenwood Village is adding 4,000 square feet to the existing skatepark; the new area will be mostly “street” elements to complement the existing bowls. This project, which is supported by a grant from Arapahoe County Open Spaces, was requested by existing users and endorsed by nearly 100 skaters and bikers through their written comments as part of the grant application process. Come view the design concepts for the expansion and give your suggestions. Help us keep the stoke alive and join us for pizza and planning.
